Time Quest. An obscure movie that has John Boy's dad going back in time to save JFK and creates an alternate history in the process. That's as much as I'll give away.

Some folks have mentioned the 1960 version of the Time Machine, while I agree that's the definitive version, it was remade twice, first as a TV movie in 1978 and again as a theatrical film in 2002. Neither is as good as 1960, but they're also nowhere near as bad as I've heard some claim. 2002, in fact, has a superior soundtrack.

I don't recommend this movie, it's starts off incredibly promising and then degenerates into well, nothing I can really say without giving away the plot.

It's pretty heavy viewing too, so don't attempt it if you are looking for a movie you can relax with because the dialogue will send you to sleep if you are anything less than fully alert!

Again, it's a good idea for a movie, but it rather quickly turns into something messy.

    Dude, THANK YOU!

I saw that movie when I was a kid and never new what it was called. I've been trying to figure out how to get it for YEARS!

    Pow!

    Seriously, thank you!

EDIT: Oh sweet! The movie is on YouTube in its entirety!

The Fountain is kind of a time travel movie.

There is also a movie called Journey to the Center of Time which is similar, in fact has some of the same dialogue!

Both of those are Irwin Allen productions, aren't they?

YES! This is an excellent film and highly, highly recommended.

2002 has, in fact, a superior time machine. The effect of light bending around it is the coolers thing ever.

    ETA: And here it is:

There's also Running Against Time, in which Robert Hays (Airplane!) does pretty much the same thing.

Although under no circumstances should any of you bother with Time Chasers (time machine created out of a prop plane and cheesy 80's computers complete with 8 1/2" floppies) or Timecop 2: The Berlin Decision.

    I'd go with:
    12 Monkeys
    Time Bandits
    Time Crimes
    Time After Time

Then of course there are the obvious ones like the Back to the Future movies, Star Trek IV, Star Trek (2009) and the 60's The Time Machine.

Oops, you're right. I got them confused, because Irwin Allen did in fact make a movie called Time Travelers in 1976. It was intended as a pilot for a new series that was not picked up. It can be found on the volume two DVD set of the Allen produced series The Time Tunnel.

I guess I've never seen the 1964 version. Good, yes?

Well I would certainly hope a major film made in 2002 would have better effects than a film made for the 60's.

I would have been dissapointed had it not had superior effects.

Thrill Seekers is a curiosity: It's a watchable Casper Van Dien movie.

^ And if it's the one I think you mean, it has Martin Sheen in it. Can't go wrong with that.

^^^Ordinarily I'd agree, but Casper Van Dien! Really, it was still possible to go wrong.;) (Though the result wasn't painful.)

Sorry, MacLeod, what I meant was, there's a lot of affection for the George Pal(?) machine of the 60s movie, with the spinning disk. but personally I prefer the 2002 one with the spinning prisms and the way the light bubble was created around it, and then how we saw time passing, which was a homage to the original but fresh at the same time.

I've never seen the original, but I find the new Time Machine pretty watchable up until the long jump into the future. Even then the creature and special effects are reasonable, it's just other aspects of the film that really fall apart.

That said, seeing Orlando Jones (or the 7-Up Guy for a time, if you prefer) in a serious role was...well, I never would have given him that much credit.

    Have you seen Backtime?

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0189383/

It even has Tom Baker in it as a crazy android.

I'm watching Thrill Seekers right now.

    Simply unforgivable.

It's like you gave my eyes genital herpes.

    Thanks.

Has anybody mentioned "12:01" starring Helen Slater?
