    Of course Data can lie. He lied all through "Time's Arrow" about his horseless carriage engine with its "Time shift" gearing system, and about being bloody French. Whether or not they should be considered dishonest in nature, those are still falsehoods, and he can tell them just as much as anyone else, although not quite as well, it would appear

    I can't even imagine programming a "lying" algorithm. There would be so many variables to take into consideration about how and when Data should lie.

    Lore seemed to have no problem with it. Even Data, scrupulously bent the truth a number of times. Even it was usually just by omission or repeating something less than true someone else said.
