In a different forum I participate in, someone relayed an experience that was rather baffling...

A wealthy Japanese man came to the UK to purchase a very rare camera that was new-in-box. Completely sealed. Because it was such a rare collectible, he would not break the seal. Instead, he went to a local hospital and had the camera box x-rayed... the cost of which was well more than half the cost of the camera. The x-ray photo did indeed reveal the camera was there and the correct model, so the purchase was completed. However... due to the sensitive nature of the internal digital components, the x-ray would surely have damaged the camera and rendered it unusable. Of course, there is no way someone would know that unless they tried to use the camera. But again, nobody would be likely to use it when it was a "mint in box" example. Weird irony. It's broken, yet still valued far more than an even better quality camera just because it's rare.

To me, that's just utterly ridiculous. That's the bizarre collector mentality for you. And such mentality will undoubtedly be easily suckered by this kind of shrink wrap scam. There's too many people out there that don't understand what true value is. Like two people who get into a bidding war on eBay over an item, sending the price above what it would normally go for... rather than someone giving up and going for the next one at a cheaper, reasonable price, they go at it... dueling like two wild animals over a carcass.

That sound like...Schrodinger's Camera. It's worthless and priceless at the same time.
