Beautiful indeed. I hope Koko never knows that she lost another friend. Mutual annihilation, one hopes.
Slightly off topic. But I heard of Koko for the first time in this thread. While I was aware of apes of high intelligence koko beats all expectations. While watching this is is hard NOT to see her as any other person. She has a clear grasp of social conventions, humor and grief, sophisticated language skills, concept of herself and distinct identities of other people, abstract thinking and life and death. How can ANYBODY classify these creatures as "just an animal" any longer?
It wasn't just her. Here he is with some dolphins http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Og46vzrBcqs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3mYJica2q0 Even the heavens cry out now http://www.space.com/26813-buzz-aldrin-mourns-robin-williams.html http://www.space.com/26802-robin-williams-space-shuttle-wakeup-call.html
^^ That's a wonderful video and a nice message from Buzz Aldrin. Oh. Animal intelligence is a fascinating area of research. Not only some primates and some cetaceans, but even some species of birds show signs of self-awareness and abstract thought, and the ability to use language. Elephants as well.
To anyone interested in animal intelligence, I highly recommend watching Project Nim, a documentary about a chimp raised in close contact with humans with the goal of seeing if it could develop a limited language based on American Sign Language. It's both a heartwarming and heartbreaking movie. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Nim_(film) More information about the project here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nim_Chimpsky
Robin will get an in game memorial in World of Warcraft. USA Today: http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/gaming/2014/08/15/wow-robin-williams/14103481/
Adam Hills is awesome. This. His answer to the Westboro Baptist Church's threat to picket the funeral: [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60ETdhgLA8U[/yt] CAN WE GET A KICKSTARTER GOING FOR THIS?!
Good for him! Westboro is out of their minds -_-. Let the man rest in peace. On another note... Came across a few more articles today: A video of him messaging a terminally ill fan Source: Time Magazine It was really nice and thoughtful of him to take the time to do this. An article Mara Wilson wrote about him Source: marawilsonwritesstuff.com An article Lisa Jakub wrote about him Source: lisajakub.wordpress.com
A nice tribute from Letterman. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/08/19/david-letterman-robin-williams_n_5690906.html That last line must tear at the hearts of all the men and women who knew him beyond the professional persona.
I watched "Popeye" this afternoon, a movie I literally haven't seen in 30 years or so. And I came out actually liking it. It's not a "good" movie, for sure. It's a terrible "musical" as the musical numbers in it are horrible but it's actually a pretty good adaptation of the source material overall and I think Williams does a good job as Popeye and Duvall as Olive Oyl. Fun little movie.
It would have been better as a straight-up comedy, but as bad as it was I thought it was pretty good. Williams really brought Popeye to life, and Shelley Duvall as Olive was brilliant casting.
Oh to get my hands on a time machine--to be able to break into his home after he cut his wrists--to pull him free of that belt. Robin is the only man I ever wanted to touch. He always looked like he could have used a hug
Robin, You will be missed by many.......but thank you for the great work that you did that we all enjoyed. Rest in Peace.
Here's a great retrospective by Mara Wilson, the youngest daughter in Mrs Doubtfire, and among other movies as a child star. http://marawilsonwritesstuff.com/remembering-robin/
Yes, definitely. Very sweet of her. And just noticed Ramdom_Spock had already posted it. Sorry about that. Didn't recognize the link.
No problem , Owain Taggart. She did a really good job in regards of remembering the time she spent with him.
Yeah, I noticed that she said she no longer does acting, but I wonder if she would have reconsidered for the Mrs Doubtfire sequel that was being planned, since she had such a great experience with him. Of course, I think it's better, for everyone involved, that it won't be happening. Knowing that he dislikes sequels, I don't think his heart would have been in it. But it's great to hear from someone who's had time with him at such an impressionable age. I have to say, she's very well-spoken.
