    Hello all!

My sister, brother and I were all raised on star trek - original series and TNG. Thus, we are going to the opening showing of the new movie coming out in may! We are all complete trekkies and want to wear costumes accordingly. We'd like to wear Original series costumes - just simple Kirk tunics would suffice. We have our Vulcan ears and we're doing our hair and eyebrows etc. etc. (I'm so excited! ) ...*cough* erm, anyway. I do sew, bust I mostly make a mean quilt or simple tube skirt. I never could figure out sleeves much, and it's been a while since I've done anything so I am a bit rusty, but I think I could pull something off with good instruction (and pictures!). Does anyone know where I could find some directions to making one? Patterns for these are expensive and all 3 of us vary much in size. Any website or video would be VERY useful.

    Thanks much in advance!

You might have some difficulty finding material like they used for the uniforms in the new film...there's an embedded Trek chevron in the material, only visible in closeup (kind of like how Superman Returns used the S symbol chevron in miniature to construct his costume).

A shame in a way...I liked the very early velour tops they abandoned after the first couple episodes.

You're in luck--some folks on the RPF are planning to recreate the tunics, fabric and all, sometime down the line. The tunic threads are here and here, information on the boots here, the pants here and threads about the metal insignias here and here.

There's information here about registration for the board, if you want to be signed up so you can contact the relevant parties about the tunics and such.

I JUST made a post to my blog all about uniforms, where to get patterns (they are only $15), construction tips, pre-made ones, etc.: http://conventionfans.today.com/2008/12/29/costuming-star-treks-starfleet-uniform/

Edit: Ack! You meant new movie ones, not TOS ones... (I see this happening all the time in the future. Couldn't they call this movie something ELSE?!)

You have my permission to look the other way.

I was in costume for Star Treks "The Wrath of Khan" through to "Insurrection"!

A shame I was dressed as "Tootsie" for the premiere of "Milk" the other night. :(

The last time I wore a costume to a "Star Trek" movie was the opening of Star Trek 5 back in 1989. ;)
