"Oh no. Not again!"

Indeed, Eccleston was disappointed the scene was removed over something like quality of the visual effects feeling his performance in the scene more than made up for anything lacking in the CG.

Personally I think it's a good idea they left the scene out, as the regeneration effect really is terrible. But I can understand Eccleston's passionate attitude since he really delivers a powerful performance and if you didn't know any better you'd think it was Hurt. BBC should have come to some sort of compromise, leave the scene in there but cut the actual regeneration itself. Ah well, missed opportunities are so easy to see in hindsight.

THAT explains why i never saw it.. The DVDs arent available in the states! I had to see the eps second hand....

That's weird, they are in Canada. Or is that because it was funded by CBC while at that time American channels pretended like Doctor Who didn't exist? The telemovie sure left its scars...

Thats likely... the US has enthusiastically received the 2005 and on serials, but the earlier ones just dont seem to be too popular here. Probably the veiled references to US policies of the day...

Yeah, I guess there was no subtlety to the Time Lords conquering Androzani because they thought there were weapons of mass destruction.

Veiled? Come on. It was pretty blatant. The "Shrubya" serial especially.

Actually, while Shrubya might draw on Bush parallels due to it being topical I always thought it was a commentary on a broad array of political ideas. Really deep and intellectual stuff going on in that story.

Getting HR Giger to design the Hurt Era console room was a stroke of genius on the BBC's part.

Do you think the hooded woman in the penultimate serial could be Clara, retroactively speaking? I mean, she couldn't have been a Watcher, and she seemed awfully inquisitive, not to mention fast-talking...

He took some getting used to and was definitely channeling Eric Roberts (even copied the "I like to dress for the occasion" line) but I don't think he's the worst Master. He certainly ain't no Roger Delgado, but then who is?

Oh oh oh, who remembers the episode when Michael Jackson actually appeared on the show as himself? Then the Hurt Doctor accidently knocked his nose off. That's why for the rest of the episode, you could easily see PVA glue on Jacksons nose.

Yeah but that was intentional... it was even in the script! MJ was playing an alien, and the nose was part of the disguise...

As much as I loved of the "continuity porn," I'm still disturbed by "The Return of Dodo" and how she took her vengeance on The Doctor for abandoning her all those years ago. The torture sequences went a bit far in my opinion even though The Doctor egged Dodo on the whole time.

The Doctor can hardly be blamed for abandoning Dodo. Ben and Polly told him Dodo wanted off the TARDIS ride, and asked them to say goodbye to the Doctor for her (Though, I suppose, since the Doctor had just met Ben and Polly, it probably woulda been a good idea to verify they were being truthful, for all The Doctor knew, they coulda left Dodo dying in a ditch and made up the whole "Wanting out" story)

Yeah, I did think the torture scene was a bit much, too.

But by far the most disturbing scene was in The Eye of Harmony, where the Doctor is forced to revert the creation of the Time Lords after a a gruelling, century-long hypnosis done by none other than Padmasambhava, as revenge for the whole Abominable Snowmen thing. It was rather brave of Hurt to portray the Doctor so weak and helpless, as I understand the BBC was rather adverse at showing these kind of intense scenes in a show squarely family-friendly.

I never really liked that one. I mean, I get that they were trying to be clever, what with this happening in a Red Nose Day special and all, but it really ruined Michael Jackson for me.
