The Doctor cna never be shirtless. He's the Doctor, not Captain Kirk. And now I've opened the floodgates for photos of all the times the various Doctors have been shirtless on the show...
You forgot Paul McGann from his post regeneration scene. And Sylvester McCoy on the hospital bed in the TV movie. But otherwise, yeah, I think that is all the times the Doctors have been shirtless.
Compared to 3 years ago he's definitely got a more defined 6 pack. I'd say Matt looked flabby/undefined six pack in 2010
I'm guessing Smith worked out for the character he'd be playing - I'm guessing he doesn't normally carry 2 x 20 pounders around, though he IS known for his keen fashion sense.. Regardless, the only Doctor who got noticeably bigger during his tenure was Colin Baker, and even THAT was after an 18 month break from the show. Mark
Colin Baker's size is exaggerated. I am aware they had to make a larger version of Peter Davison's costume for Colin to wear in the post regeneration scene (which Davison himself wore in Time Crash) and he probably is the bulkiest Doctor. But everyone's fixation on his size to the extent that some call him "the fat Doctor" seems really uncalled for. There's nothing usual about his size, especially not when he was the Doctor.
Not when he was the Doctor no, he did put on a lot of weight afterwards though. Thankfully he does seem to have lost some of it now.
I didn't. I just couldn't find them on Google and was to lazy to do pop in the DVD and do screenshots. You did that on purpose, right?!
Yes, in the years since Colin Baker left the show he has gained weight, but since I was only focusing on his term as Doctor that didn't seem relevant. Besides, I'm the last person who should be commenting on anyone gaining weight.
It's not a critique - yes, Colin Baker is a larger-framed man, and I see nothing wrong with that. I'm just saying that while he was the Doctor he DID noticeably put on weight, and not just let his hair grow out. From his first and last stories: http://www.shillpages.com/dw/bakerc08.jpg They did make a new waistcoat for him between the seasons to accomodate him, and a further one in the "future" story Terror of the Vervoids, where we was deliberately playing an older, heavier Doctor. Davison's costume coat was not altered for "Time Crash". However, the pants were a paid that had been altered for Baker, being cut and expanded down the backside where we couldn't have seen it. You can see it in the Making of Time Crash, I think. The cricket vest and shirt underneath were new to fit Peter's current shape, though. Mark
I know that the fandom will not let up until either Smith, Moffat or the BBC all have a live press release saying "MATT SMITH IS COMING BACK FOR SERIES 8!" with fireworks and dancing girls. But this is pretty close. More Matt Smith. Please. Just let us know and we'll move on. Mark
Excellent news. Hope we get at least one full series with Clara so she'll have had more episodes than Martha or Donna. Also nice to see that Smith will beat Tennant in number of episodes.
