The cast are going to be some interviews today in Sydney. Gonna look forward to seeing this in another 29 days when it opens here in Australia on May 7. Positive reviews I've heard.

    hello..
maybe ask things like this in the review thread with spoilers since it can only be answered by people who have seen the whole movie.

it would be nice to limit this thread to just stuff revealed in the trailers.
    please

    :)

they asked the mainstream and some other media to hold back on full reviews until april 21.

but considering the good word of mouth emerging i can kinda see why they did this.

    ahhhh..
    that is interesting..
    thank cubbie..

i guess maybe they were nervous if the reviews would be bad.
i think i read one place they didnt want the reviews until the tickets went on sale.

but considering how much is coming out with the blog ect reviews and how good so many have been i guess they decided to take the leash off.

of course one has to be more careful avoiding spoilers.

There's one single quasi-spoiler in the reviews concerning a relationship between 2 characters, unless you have already seen the Australian "Today Tonight" vid that also reveals this relationship: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOlP9Re7R7E

ARGH. Why'd they have to premier it a MONTH prior to the general release? ::puts blinders on for next month::

A friend of mine was there in Sydney with a complimentary press pass. There is an embargo on all professional media reviews for two weeks.

As I don't want to cover too much ground that's already been talked about I'll break it up into sections:

    In General:
BIG film. It's Star Trek on a Star Wars scale. Should appeal to fans and non fans alike. It's not your daddy's Star Trek though.

    Previous Trek Fans:
Mostly keeps to what's come before (can't say more without spoiling).

    The Look:
Like a million (or 200) dollars. The bridge is a bit white and engineering is a bit WTF, but overall nice.

    The Acting:
All good. Karl Urban nails it big time, but all the cast are great. Chekov's a bit over the top. Eric Bana is gold.

The Feel: It's a bit of everything. The film doesn't have the overly serious tone of most of Star Trek's previous shows and films. The comedy fits when it's in there.

Action: Heaps of it and everybody gets a go.

Story: Good. It's not the most original, but it works well. It isn't too convoluted that non-fans can't watch and enjoy it.

Music: Again, it's big. Not so much of a fan of the main theme for the film, but it does fit. Yes, the original theme does pop up in there.

The actual event rocked!!! Got to meet all the cast and crew there (JJ Abrams, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, John Cho and Eric Bana. Karl Urban was a legend - he really worked the crown big time. Eric Bana rocked too! All of them were really nice. Got to have a talk to them all and they all signed my limited edition world premiere poster. Chris Pine stole my pen and Zachary Quinto paid out on him big time so I had Spock going to town on Kirk's a$$ on my behalf. :)

That's great porthos4captain! Thanks for the review and you can tell Pine/Quinto are friends.

Kind of irrelevant to the movie, but I was just thinking that with all the positive buzz and good reviews the 2 premieres have been getting there should be 5 or 6 people around here whose heads are exploding and worst nightmares are coming to life.

Re: Advance screening/World Premiere discussions [the NO-SPOILERS vers

Well the best way to describe it is that it's not very "starshippy". Most of the production design has all the familiar elements re-imagined, however engineering doesn't IMHO bear any resemblance to any engine room previously in Star Trek. It's a minor quibble, of which I only have a few of in terms of the Enterprise itself.

I think the exterior has already been talked to death and I'm in agreeance with most. I think the secondary hull could be a little bigger (and slightly back) and the nacelles a little smaller (and further apart and back). In terms of the interior, I like the bridge, I simply would've prefered more variation in tones (less white) and the removal of the bar code scanners. I actually like the design itself. Sickbay was fine and the hallways were OK (again with the white). The transporter room was good.

I suppose the overall sense I got was that the designs were very good, but some aspects didn't form a cohesive whole that made it seem like they were all on the same ship. The bridge and hallways go well together, as did the transporter room and sickbay. Engineering was quite different.

Everything you've said on this page is something that anyone could have typed out having seen the trailers.

Care to actually elaborate on your engineering WTF comment? Because we've all heard weeks ago how different it looks. What does it actually look like for instance?

Isn't that a bit on the Spoiler side for a no-spoilers thread ?

Re: Advance screening/World Premiere discussions [the NO-SPOILERS vers

I understand your concern, but I want to avoid spoilers so I'm not setting one foot in that spoiler thread. I just wanted to know if there are any references to the other shows and not what references, I think saying "yes there are references to the other shows" is like 85% non-spoilery, right? ;)
