So is anyone else still watching this? I've been really enjoying the season so far. I'm loving Dysan's new partner. She's a really fun character.
Actually, I thought the season got off to a kind of slow start, but I really liked last week's episode. I haven't seen this week's yet.
The first episode was awful. Probably an attempt not to scare new viewers with too much continuity. I'm not a fan of open toed platform stripper high heels at the best of times, but on prisoners? Poor Kensi. But did you see her go to town with that magic stick? WOW! 'Girl has moves she has totally been hiding. Meanwhile Rachel Skarsten is interesting as always.
I was kinda hoping Kenzi would keep the magic stick, to put her on a slightly more level playing field as everyone else.
Levelling Kensi up ruins her victories despite being a lowly human. You wouldn't give Batman the powers of Superman would you? (Well, not for too long.)
Actually, I was afraid they would do that and was glad they didn't. That would have been as bad as putting a uniform on Troi or making Alfred the Batman's gun-toting sidekick. Let her be who she is. She's absolutely fine without turning into the Mighty Thor. As for last night's episode, it was good, if not great. We're finally getting some follow up to Kenzie's rash, Hale is experiencing the downside of being in authority and Dyson's new partner is becoming more palatable. And, of course, the triangle soap opera continues. I wonder how that will eventually work out, because, aside from it turning into a threesome, there's really no good ending possible.
I'm really liking Tamsin. Rachel Skarsten has matured considerably in both talent and sex appeal from when she played Dinah Lance on Birds of Prey a decade ago.
That fact that Dyson got his love back but hasn't told Bo is the one thing that has bugged me about the season so far. It always bugs me when people keep those kinds of secrets in shows like this. I'm starting to think that the writers like making Dyson act crazy, but Kris Holden-Ried does a funny crazy, so it's not all bad.
He tried to tell her, but Bo hooked up with Lauren first. It's a Dick move to ruin Bo's new affair that might only last weeks. He's not thinking that tactically, Dogboy is just being a martyr.
That's where I've seen her before! She looked vaguely familiar, but I couldn't for the life of me remember where I'd seen her before. Cool!
As a character, Kenzi works fine as a regular human. But from an in-universe practical sense, I think they need to do something to give her a little more protection. One thing that really bugged me, especially in the early episodes, was when someone would come to Bo & Kenzi asking for protection from something. Bo would then go off and investigate the Dark-Fae-of-the-week (either on her own or with Dyson), leaving their vulnerable client alone in their house with only Kenzi as protection. I kept thinking they needed to at least put some kind of protection spell on the house. Otherwise, it's only a matter of time before some royally pissed off Fae breaks into the house and rips Kenzi apart just to send Bo a message.
I'm getting a little bored with the plots this season. Too many gratuitous sexual situations, too much Lauren, and not enough plot. Whatever happened to Kensi is moving too slow. She is different (or it is not her) and she's saying things to upset the characters and setting them up for something, but it's becoming boring to me. I'm rooting for Lauren to get killed off. She's pretty annoying.
That's exactly what I'm enjoying about it. And really... this is a show about a succubus. It's supposed to be about sexual situations. Calling them gratuitous is like calling the martial-arts scenes in a Jackie Chan movie gratuitous. That's not likely to happen anytime soon. In an E! Online "tournament" last week, Bo and Lauren were voted the top TV couple of 2013, beating out what looks like some pretty serious competition.
^I generally hate cutesy shipper portmanteau nicknames, but I have to admit, "Doccubus" is kind of funny.
