Been here awhile, 10+. Got hooked on Facebook to keep in contact with seasonal working friends, so drop in here only occasionally. Think about you all most around 9/11 as I found out what was happening on this site. Hello to all, later. AO51
When I first joined: Monica Lewinsky, Ron Moore quitting Voyager, Kosovo, and Columbine were current stuff.
I joined up during the Great Voyager/Enterprise("Series V") Membership Surge during the spring and summer of 2001. Next April marks my 12th anniversary on the board. When you have one series ending and another, even more ambitious one just a few months from getting underway that's as ripe a time as any to get onboard at a site like this. It was a time that the forums didn't experience before and haven't seen the likes of since.
You know i wonder if the member number goes up sequentially, as that might give us an idea for the oldest member. As if they are an idicator the lower the number the longer you've been around.
My 8th anniversary is coming up this Hallowe'en. Not quite as old a timer as many, but I can still keep ticking away. Plus, I've not always posted here constantly, and I've not always had this username (but many of you all knew that anyway ).
What's the definition of old timer. I was here in 2002 (Changed usernames in 2003) but it doesn't feel like I'm an old timer.
I guess one way of gauging it might be: "Were you using a cell phone with a retractable antenna when you joined?"
No, but I was using a flip up Cell Phone at the time. Heck, when I first joined, I don't think I was using a Cell Phone at all.
I didn't have a cell phone yet. It would still be two years before my first cellphone, and it would be one of these: And it wasn't even mine. I had to share it with my mom.
It was 10 years of time wasting for me in May, but I still don't feel like a member of the old guard.... they smell funny. Ha!
I sometimes wonder what it'd be like if I had registered much earlier. I had been lurking for years. I was aware of this place back in my undergrad days, then started lurking a bit after college. I wouldn't have gone with Finn since I wouldn't have had the dog yet... A lot of people have gone. I remember Galleywest constantly winning the TNG caption this contests, Amelie snapping at posters in the Voyager forum, Naraht's Dr. Crusher threads and Captain Gandalf's photoshop art thread (the current one is a mere shadow of what it once was). I browse the trek forums (most posts are caption this ones) when not in Misc and TNZ. I've been noticing more and more unfamiliar newbies. 2006 seems so a long time ago now.
