What's With The Short Pants?

Anybody know why artists occasionally draw him like this? He was wearing the cutoffs and a short sleeve shirt too in the Darkseid story. Is this supposed to be his summer look? It looks a little effeminate to me.

 

His armor is based on Roman gladiators. Back than warriors need their limbs exposed to be completely free to move. In fact most men had exposed legs with sandals back than.

Why did Kirby change the style? It's not the way he had him in the original trilogy.

 

To show off his sculpted quads to all the ladies.

Kirby liked to change his own designs a lot. The Thing was different from issue to issue in the early days.

That picture is a little too close to be horrifying.

Tell some Roman Gladiators that, I'm sure they'll have a nice response for you.

 

Darkseid is like that too, his original outfit looked like a one-piece bathing suit.

For the animated show, Bruce Timm redesigned it so he looks like he had a more regal kilt look (like Scottish kings).

That's Galactus' summer outfit.

And I like the big "G" on his chest in the one panel, he should have kept that.

 

Not seeing that much a difference in the skirt in those three pictures. Maybe in the fact the legs are colored blue in the third one that makes it okay.

 

According to John Byrne, you see Galactus in short pants because that is the only way you can comprehend him.

 

Does every race see him in a different style pants?

 

Yes, and shirts. Some races see him in midriff baring mesh shirts, like in the Right Said Fred video for "I'm Too Sexy".

 

I suppose that's probably how Thor would perceive Galactus.

 

Changing the subject. Who owns the movie rights to the character of Galactus?

 

20th Century Fox. Galactus is part of the Fantastic Four deal.
