They used a sliver of glass from the window of his rocketship.

They might be better off just offering Bale more money than he could possibly refuse. The Nolanverse Batman is extremely popular at the moment, and they'd have to work uphill to build up a new Bat franchise. It might work out, but it might end up like Batman and Robin. They'd be safest going with the known and popular version.

I don't think it would be safe at all to try to resurrect the Nolan continuity -- and Bruce as Batman therein -- after it was brought to a rather decisive conclusion, let alone to suddenly transform Nolan's relatively naturalistic universe into the more fanciful one the Justice League would exist in. Let alone to try to continue it without Nolan directing, which he wouldn't. Any one of those could produce audience backlash. All of them together? I think that's a lot riskier than just starting over from scratch.

I think we got a great conclusion to the Nolanverse Batman, and I would rather not see them cancel that out by bringing back that version of Batman. Not to mention the fact that there is pretty much no way you could work the realistic Nolan Batman into something as fantastic as the JL without it feeling forced.

Justice League doesn't have to be fantastic, though. He can do naturalistic with superpowers just as well as you can do it with rich people in bat costumes. You've just got to be willing to take it seriously and follow through to its natural conclusion.

Casting a champion swimmer as Aquaman strikes me as overly literal, too, but, to be fair, there is an historical precedent for a Gold-Medal swimmer becoming a movie star.

    Anybody remember Johnny Weismuller?

Chris Pine would be my ideal Aquaman personally...but he's already busy now with two franchises and most likely would be unavailable.

Not to mention his contemporary, and fellow screen Tarzan, Buster Crabbe.

Funny. I had him pegged for Hal Jordan.

Funny you mention Doug McClure. Growing up in the 60s and 70s he was always who I pictured as Aquaman

Of course, for every one of those, there's a Brian Bosworth, Sam J. Jones, Vinnie Jones (no relation), Muhammed Ali...

This got me thinking of when the Salkinds actually screen tested Bruce Jenner for Superman.

Bruce Jenner is a bit old to play Superman, after all, I remember seeing him on a box of Wheaties when I was a kid. Probably a body builder would be the best for this role if we go strictly by body type.

The screen test was for Superman: The Movie back in the 70s.

Why would Superman be built like a bodybuilder?
