Hey guys, It's been a while since I started a brand new model. I knew I wanted to build the Vengeance, ever since we got that first glimpse of it in the early movie trailers. It turned out to look quite different than I thought it would, but that's good. Some of these shapes going on here are a lot more complicated than they look! The shape of the secondary hull has taken me the longest... I've got about 12 hours into it, so far. I also finally upgraded from Blender 2.4, too. I'm using the 2.66 64-bit version now, trying to learn where the moved everything to, as I build it. It hasn't slowed me down too much. So, what do y'all think? If anyone has been sketching this thing, or has an idea of what the top of it looks like, let me know. My goal is to have this thing finished by the time I get to see the movie, on the 17th. -Ricky
Looks good! When you're done, can I borrow a profile view to horrify technical fans with an updated version of THIS size-comparison chart?
Can't wait for you to work your magic on this beauty. *sees the looks people are giving him* Come on guys, it's so fugly that it wings back around to being good looking. One suggestion: A copy as the Enterprise-A. Just to make peoples heads explode
Thanks guys. KingDaniel, sure, I can do that. Yep, it's ugly, but in a cool way, like the F117-A. An Enterprise-A version would be fun. -Ricky
I guess I am one of the few who think this ship is great. You did a lot of work very quickly. Something for that empty interior. Was it Drex--no, I think it was Eaves who had a design for a saucer drop ship More of his work http://johneaves.wordpress.com/2009/03/26/starship-of-the-day-3/
Thanks, guys. Tonight's update... still figuring out how all of those shapes in the neck fit together. I have no idea how the guys came up with this. More later. Off Topic, I received a really cool poster from Paramount today, as part of the viral site. Did anyone else get one? -Ricky
This is nice work, considering how few images there are of Vengeance right now. I like all your orthographic ship specs, but have you considered doing deck plans or cutaways for any of the alternate timeline ships, Even if it is all conjecture?
Thanks. Yep, I've thought about it, but free time is an issue. Speaking of which, I hoped to get more done tonight, but one, if not both of my video cards bit the dust yesterday. New ones are on the way, though. -Ricky
Made a little bit of progress last night... after I got my Workstation back up. It turned out that the Star Trek game installed a DirectX update, which I think contained a Windows 7 platform update, which didn't like the latest nVidia drivers. After I removed the DirectX update, and rolled back to my old drivers, it was all working. The new cards are coming in this week anyway, though. More soon. It's really starting to come together. -Ricky
Stumbled across this. Perhaps helpful if you haven't seen it. http://scifanatic.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/stid-t5-31.jpg Dave
As much as I don't like the ship, well done on the build. I hope that you can make it look better than it did in the film!
