....and keeps that "starfield simulation" screensaver just because it's Trek-y?

I didn't realize people still used screensavers. You're better off having your monitor go to sleep after 15 minutes of inactivity than running a screensaver.

I remember back in the 1990s I was a kid and thought screensavers were cool and new, I always enjoyed that starfield one. It reminded me of the closing credits of the modern Trek shows.

What? Back then TNG, DS9 and Voyager were modern Trek.

    yeah, but a black screen isn't Trek-y.

I guess all of you aren't really Trek fans as you claim.

    Posers.

I actually had the Star Trek screensavers from AfterDark. My favorites were the medical display and the Scotty in the Jeffries tube display.

My computer rarely gets a chance to use a screensaver. Simple because when I'm using it, it doesn't have a chance to come up. If I'm not using I'll put it into sleep mode at the very least.

    I really do not know . . .

I don't use a screensaver as such - though I used to use the starfield one for just the reason you say. But what I do, since I still need a regular fix, is to make a slide show of Star Trek titles from screenshots and play that when I have music going (which prevents hibernation) - or just want more Star Trek around.

Used it way back when. But by now I use neither Windows nor screen savers.

Only my very first computer from 2001--which I use solely as a non-internet accessible word processor in my bedroom--still has the "flying through space" screensaver. I'll use it whenever I'm writing a Trek fanfic.

All of my screensavers are set to kick in after three minutes of inactivity, but more often than not I tend to just shut my computer down whenever I'm not using it. The days when I have a computer always on or even just in sleep mode ended a few years ago for me...

Actually, displays on TNG and beyond are off when not in use. Our solution is CANON, whereas your precious screensaver isn't. :p
