Interestingly, The BBC twitter synopsis has one notable difference in wording:

Haha, that sounds terrible so it probably is the storyline.

There's also a certain someone's face in the fire:

I wonder Who it could be? ;)

(Admittedly I didn't spot the face myself; I found out about it via Blogtor Who.)

Put that together with the official synopsis and it does sound pretty plausible...

The poster image does seem include the Doctor's "friend" mentioned in that synopsis, so I'm inclined to believe it.

Actually I think it sounds fantastic but don't pay attention to me, I'm a Doctor Who fan.

Unless they saw the poster image and incorporated it into the synopsis?

I guess that's certainly possible. But I kind of like the idea of an aged Doctor keeping a Cyberhead to be his friend so want it to be true.

No, really? I never would have guessed, what with you posting in the Doctor Who forum and all. ;)

It does sound a bit cruel, though, doesn't it? Not letting the Cyberman die but instead keeping his head around for centuries - not very Doctor-like at first glance but we'll see how it will play out (or not if it isn't true).

To be honest, due to the Doctor holding the Cyberhead I first assumed that promo pic was a hoax.

At least the Doctor is keeping the Cyberhead company. Poor Dorium is stuck in a box in a crypt surrounded by carnivorous skulls. Sure he's got a media chip, but what happens when the Wi-Fi is down?

If this synopsis is true it seems the production team spent so much effort keeping events in the 50th secret that they forgot about doing the same for Christmas!

Why do you feel that? What is it about this synopsis that you don't like?

It's not about liking/disliking, I'm just surprised that this has sneaked out when they kept so much about the 50th secret.

Apparently The Sun contains spoilers today and I'm assuming they're accurate as Sue Vertue and others have taken to twitter asking fans not to buy the paper.

Was there a press screening that the Sun wasn't supposed to report on? Because if there wasn't, then all people who are in the know are doing is confirming the veracity of the spoilers by telling people to avoid the Sun.

The Sun spoilers are huge. If they are true, the finale will definitely be big:

The time cracks we first saw in the 11th hour are a by-product of the doctor saving Gallifrey. At the end of the finale, a time crack appears in the sky and the Time Lords reappear and give the doctor a brand new set of 12 regenerations as a reward for saving Gallifrey.

That seems to line up with the earlier "leaked" detailed synopsis as well...
