This was once my second favorite film ever for about two weeks. It's gone down to 60th place or so now. While far from perfect, it's still arguable the ultimate disaster movie of all time. And the Paul Gallico novel has many extra characters and added tragedy the film could not touch.
How do the rest of you feel?

Irwin Allen at his finest. One of my favorites. Been a fan of his since Lost in Space!

Gene Hackman's the best thing in that movie.

(Screaming at god): "Whaddayou want from us!?...More blood?! TAKE ME!!"

And Mrs. Rosen is the biggest hero...

    Love, love, love this movie.

The only thing I never liked about it was that damn kid.

At least in the book, the kid dies.

Along with The Towering Inferno, probably the last of the real special effects instead of CGI.

The Towering Inferno was released in 1974. Hardly the last movie with "real" special effects.

One of the classic disaster movies. And far superior to any of the remakes of it that have been done over the years.

I remember seeing that movie in the theater and it was the very first DVD I ever bought. It is time to watch it again.

FYI, it's airing on TCM sometime in the next few weeks. Can't remember the exact date right now.

It has great characters, something all the other versions lack unfortunately.

A combination of the visuals from Petersen's 2006 version and the characters from the original film = utter perfection :)
