If your primary monitor is smaller than 32", I'm going to slap you for having so much storage ;)

Before I saw a financier made on one of those chef compeition shows, I'd always imagined them as cupcakes or something, dressed in little pinstripe suites with briefcases.

You must try the red velvet. When made well - and it almost always is - it's to die for!

Except, it always makes me think of Armadillo cake from Steel Magnolias.

My mum decided that she absolutely needed to be present in my Pandora bracelet, and so she bought me a beautiful Pandora charm:

The University Library held a book sale today. I picked up the following for only a few bucks,

    Macroscope by Piers Anthony
The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury
The Source by James A. Michener

    History

Citizen Soldiers by Stephen E. Ambrose
Patriots: The Men who Started the American Revolution by A.J. Langguth

I couldn't tell you how they're made, but they're both small little sponge-esque little baked treats. When I asked what made financier so gorgeous, I was told it uses beurre noisette (browned butter) which is what's responsible for the deeper flavour profile. Whatever, it's lush.

No financiers for sale in the cafe today. :(

But apparently the entire batch sold out in record time last Friday, so it will return... :D

After this, I had to google it. Apparently it's very similar in taste (if not in colour) to Devil's Food Cake, which I have had. It's awesome. The brighter red colour of the Red Velvet version sounds lots of fun too.

I've been buying a lot of books lately. My very latest purchase is a copy of La Rochefoucauld's collected works, which shipped from amazon.ca today.

Tis true. The recipe is basically a devil's food cake recipe with additional ingredients (and color) that make it amazingly moist. I have to admit, when I first discovered that one such additional ingredient (in some recipes) was mayonaise I sort of thought .... :barf2:

Then I realized I didn't care, if that was what made the cake so incredibly moist and delictable. Hmmmm ..., I'm thinking a red velvet cupcake baking binge may be in my future.

I like shopping at those 24 hour limited edition 10 dollar T shirt stores. So I'm constantly buying a t-shirt

Depends on whether "supplies" is code for "vast quantities of amphetamines", I guess.

Coffees, sandwich and a loaf of sourdough. Did go to the local outlet village in the afternoon, but only window shopping. Despite being tempted by some rose gold cufflinks, a cool pair of loafers and a nifty summer jacket. My willpower is awesome.

"supplies" = tampons, since hubby won't let me say that word in front of him, the big baby. I have learned to use it as an acceptable codeword.

    I didn't even think of that. :D

Mind you, it puts your "thrill a minute" line in a whole new light.

(old story I've probably told here before: a mate of mine at the time was doing his first internal gynaecological exam, and after struggling to palpate the ovaries, told the doc who was teaching him: "I'm not getting any joy down here...")

"Poor thing looks like it's bleedin' to death!" Exactly what I think of. Especially the scene where Ouiser served Drum the ass of the armadillo. :guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw:That movie has forever ruined Red Velvet Cakes for me!

Had fun bargain-hunting at Ross yesterday- got a couple of cute tops (a Jones New York and a Tommy Hilfiger) for cheap, and an awesome pair of Betsey Johnson earrings, big gold and rhinestone Eiffel Towers. I'd seen them at Macy's for $45- got them for $18! :D

Today I picked up a few things at Michaels- some French-themed charms to go with some of the jewelry I've made.

I know, I LOVE those scenes, and was fortunately able to get over the armadillo revulsion. :rommie:
