I've seen the trailer, and it looks more like a straight forward horror movie, more action and much more up to date, using smart phones and the like. I wasn't fond of the original but I plan on seeing the new version when it comes out. @JD: The Dresden Files (books) have something similar. The White Court are psychic vampires, but sometimes called Incubi and Succubi too, but are alive and Human in nearly every degree and can die a normal death. The Red, Black and Jade courts all have different biology and forms, but are dead and in the case of the Black Court, rotting.
I'm just re-reading the series, I'd forgotten about the Jade Court until they were mentioned in Death Masks. Can't remember if they showed up anywhere in the series?
I've read all 12 novels and the Side Jobs anthology which I think is the main 'canon' and no, the Death Masks reference is all we ever get. Even the Black Court has been mostly out of the series since Mavra got the book.
Ah, I'm only up to Summer Knight, so the only ones I've really read about so far are the Red Court, which seem to be pretty much typical vampires.
They are both undead blood drinkers but I think the Rempires monster-in-a-Human-skin thing makes them a bit more interesting. Blampires are far too...zombie-ish.
Well the Black Court are supposed to be the traditional kind, sun light, stakes, etc. but a bit more disgusting. Red Court seem to be more the seductive, beautiful types that are about more now, but with a monster underneath. While White Court are Incubus and succubus. JD if you've read Summer Knight you should be introduced to all 3 of those by now. All three kinds were at Bianca's party in Grave Peril.
Ah, Ok. It's actually been quite a while between books for me, so I forgot that they did introduce members of the other Courts in Grave Peril.
Some vampire stuff the OP might enjoy: Books The Vampire Huntress series by L.A. Banks Live Girls by Ray Garton Voice of the Blood by Jemiah Jefferson The Traveling Vampire Show & Bite by Richard Laymon Comics Pinocchio Vampire Slayer Bite Club Blood + Water 30 Days of Night Blade: Black & White Tomb of Dracula MI: 13 series (Marvel)-vamps played a big part in the series, at least the final arc Ides of Blood
I've read a couple of L.A. Banks work and a couple of the comics which take place after the conclusion of the Vampire Huntress series. I liked her spin on the vampire hunting genre.
Sadly, I just found out that L.A. Banks is currently fighting cancer. Not to bring everyone down, but a fund has been set up to help her with medical expenses. I don't know how to post a link, but you can probably find it by googling "Leslie Esdaile Fund." (That's her real name.) Given that her work is being discussed, it seemed appropriate to mention this.
I am not familar with that one. but as I said before I wish nothing but the best and hope she beats it. I love her books. now has anyone picked up laurrell k hamilton's hit list yet?
Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake books are really good until...Obsidian Butterfly, I think. Then they turn into crap porn.
okay finished american vampire by scott snyder rafael albuquerque and STEPHEN KING. it's part of dc vertigo line recommended to be admiral young and I found it just fanastic I give it: great read I highly recommend it.
The Vampire Diaries really hits it stride in season two. I started watching with ep 4 of season two and got hooked. Then I went back and watched season one and the eps of two I missed. Both of my sisters and one brother-in-law have been totally sucked in. I love Damon. He is so snarky. Also, the actor that comes on the show as Elijah was spot on.
