Isn't Garth supposed to be much older than Kirk?

Or is it that your white chessmen are all melty?

The trouble with "clues" of that sort is that you can make them fit all sorts of conclusions.

Yep, because this is the face of a fearsome villain. ;)

That post was meant to be a bit tongue in cheek. :)

So if you take an Indian embryo and genetically engineer it to be superhuman, it turns into a white European dude? Yeah, I think there are some issues with that concept.

Besides, Abrams has a professional relationship with a very fine Indian actor who's popular with American audiences and would make a great genetic superman.

They seriously "agebent" Zephram Cochrane when they recast him for ST:FC. Nobody complained.

Lol! I think I might write that plot down to include in my Youtube comic. My plot isn't quite convoluted enough yet.

I think that recasting Khan with a caucasian actor would seem like a a mind-bogglingly inappropriate move for a franchise that prides itself on racial diversity.

Having said that, Felix Leiter in the Bond franchise oscillates between different ethnicities and Skyfall adds something more to the mix. I think it's unlikely that Queen Guinevere was of african descent but Angel Coulby is one of the best things in the UK TV show Merlin.

Having said that, for none of those characters was race part of their backstory in the franchise in question. Mileage may vary.

I think they're having a great laugh at all the people who think he's playing Khan despite the denials and evidence to the contrary.

Don't be so sure... it looks cold outside and Cumberbatch has a jacket.

Well, it is a real star about 200 light-years away, but I don't think there's anything in Star Trek lore about it. I always just assumed he's human though.

What's funny about the age of the actor who played Garth is that he was actually younger than William Shatner. Surely he was meant to play someone who was older though, but this can easily be explained with his regenerative powers. At least that's an easier explanation than for why Pike was so much older in the new movie.

OT: Leiter wasn't in Skyfall, unless I'm losing my memory of a film I saw just a couple weeks ago. I remember wondering if the actor asked too much money, or what.

In the novels, Izar is a human colony which is now an independent Federation world. So Izarians, Garth included, are humans.
