I just came from a community where you got razed everytime you posted something that had already been posted about.

It drove me INSANE. Pisses me off.

I normally just post whatever is on my mind, but IN THIS SPECIFIC INSTANCE, the thread came up in Google at the top of the page and was EXACTLY what I was googling about.

Anyway, I heard/read some years back that the cross-dresser who did the Sci-Fi Folk-singing got into some trouble? Is that right?

Oh, and Brent Spiner and Denise Crosby kinda rubbed me the wrong way with their insinuations about knowing each other's bodies? It was like Spiner was showing off, right?

Insinuations? Showing off? Watch it again - they were just joking around.

Brent Spiner usually rubs me the wrong way.

First time I saw this flick I laughed so hard I cried, at the Captain Pike guy driving his chair along the road.

Yeah, And after reading your post, I got to thinking as to why.

Here's what I same up with:

    1) in my teens, I paid $5 to $15 to meet Takei, Doohan, Auberjoinis, Koenig, and Dorn. I paid around that to see Frakes but he didn't do autographs or photos. Here comes Spiner and his convention was $22 (in those days, that was a lot of money to me) and no autographs or anything. I didn't go.

    2) In many Trek related magazines, he seemed to take center stage over Picard, Riker, Spock, Kirk and Data always with that stupid grin. Data plays well on screen but I could never stand his photos.

    3) Strikes me in the past as pompous without the Shatner charm.

I seem to recall that there was a plan to do a Trekkies 3. It must have fallen by the wayside.

I think you entirely missed my point, which was sympathetic to dudes who wear lipstick. I was probably not clear.

In our culture a dude wearing lipstick is weird. I.e. "not-the-norm."

    But weird is not "bad."

People upthread were sounding kind of judgmental about the filker and something else though they themselves participate on a Star Trek forum . . . which is something many would find weird.

Sorta the pot calling the kettle black. That's all.

I was attempting an IDIC moment that apparently missed, so sorry if I caused ya pain.

"Screw you" is definitely not cricket.

Since it seems a misunderstanding I am going to trust you two to be cool and work it out without infractions.

    Don't disappoint me.

"Some bad luck"? Bankruptcy caused by overwhelming medical expenses is bad luck. Bankruptcy caused by poor judgement is not. Neither is possessing child porn. Ever.

He's swapped the mullet for a bald spot. But it's cool to see that he's still doing what he loves.

I'd like to know what happened to Gabe's father, though. In Trekkies he comes across as a bit of an aging hippie but provides a stable upbringing for Gabe. But by Trekkies 2, Koerner Sr. tells us that his girlfriend ran out on him with his friend and, I think, he was being declared bankrupt.

I watched Trekkies a couple months ago. It was definitely insightful. I wasn't aware of how extreme the fandom was. I've been trying to get a hold of Trekkies 2. I'd really like to know what happened to Spiner Femme.

Just to be clear, my username and avatar may reflect my love of Janeway but I have no pictures of Kate Mulgrew and I do not take "Kate breaks".

But I bet now you're considering it :D

Yes, Trekkies is a useful resource for the "Trek-curious". However, I don't think you should generalise by calling the fans extreme - even in Trekkies, I think most of the people they talk to actually have a good sense of perspective. Some fans reacted against Trekkies, saying it emphasised the extremes too much, but I think maybe this had more to do with their own shame issues ;)
Anyway, some fans did get to voice their opinions of the first Trekkies in Trekkies 2 (during the end credits). Sadly, Spiner Femme does not return, but is referenced.

One game to play while watching Trekkies is looking at the backgrounds in peoples homes, to spot stuff from other franchises, e.g. Star Wars, X-Files (still big at the time the first doco was made), etc.

    ---
EDIT: The guy in the first Trekkies who says "Last year a girl came and everything" came across as incredibly nerdy. But from his reappearance in Trekkies 2 I eventually realised he actually has a really dry, knowing sense of humour. He knew exactly how he would come across when he said that, but did it for the lols.
