Good to hear the pilot is in production this season.
Cool! Maybe she will catch a New York Airways flight from the Pan Am Building helipad to get to work. --Justin
A free-spirited beatnik chick who's also an airline stewardess? Sounds like a circa-1960 Playboy fantasy come to life!
Re: Pan Am 1960s period series greenlighted Well the series is happening. http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/b242285_abc_orders_new_angels_belles_sexy.html Interesting that ABC a major network will be going after a serialized series ala Mad Men or Heroes. They did this though with the Defying Gravity sci-fi series but that was a co-production. I am looking forward to this 1960s period series.
Why did you resurrect a 2 month old thread when there are already 2 threads dealing with pilots and the fall tv schedule?
Sounds like an interesting series. Maybe they will make a reference to Kubrick's 2001, considering that the PAN-AM company served as consultants on the 1968 MGM film, and their logo was used on the shuttle that transported Heywood Floyd to the space station.
trailer and here is the 1:45 trailer for the series: Pan Am - ABC Network sorry Justin at :57 you can see no smoke at all from the all-CGI plane. they even have a helicopter landing on top of the Pan Am building in NYC...all-CGI too... it looks great though! like Mad Men on ABC.
Re: trailer I'd watch that! Makes me wish flying was still glamorous. Heck, even in the nineties flying was nice compared to now.
Re: trailer Sorry I'm a little late, thanks for the link. I can live without the smoke up at cruise like that. That Jet Clipper looks real purty, but it looks like whoever did the CG model mirrored the right wing for the left, so there's a compressor on number one engine where there shouldn't be. The show looks more soapy than I'd like, but I might give it a look. Yeah, once the cigarette smell finally faded away! --Justin
The trailer looks pretty cool indeed http://youtu.be/6oVdLIvcNRE Love the 1960s look, clothes and stuff..and the 707s Difficult to say anything about the writing yet..but the cast seems fine. Nice to see Christina Ricci there, I hope she is more than just a guest in the pilot Will be interesting if this goes as faithfully to the details of the period, like Mad Men has done Some have already complained that the women in the show are not "curvy enough". Not sure if that criticism is valid, though..or where all the women like Marilyn Monroe during those day?
Re: trailer Don't worry -- I'm sure the network will get plenty of nitpicking letters from aviation geeks, and that mistake will be corrected in future episodes.
I had zero interest when I first heard about the series, but now I really want to see it mostly for the production work on it. Those sets are nicely done and man, seeing "Pan Am" on that building made me feel like a kid again for a moment.
She's in the regular cast. I know airlines had creepy weight restrictions for stewardesses, so maybe they were all skinnier than would have been considered ideal for the times? Joan from Mad Men would have been way over the limit (not that she'd make a good stewardness, she'd probably dump a drink on the first passenger who got out of line).
