Some of you may of seen my defiant bridge project I've got going 'here'.

    Just to mix things up a bit and to learn a few different bits and pieces in Sketchup I've made a start on an intrepid class bridge. Got most of the floor plan down now and starting to flesh out the consoles and doors. Here's some quick renders to show how things are progressing so far;

Comments/suggestions/slagging off welcome . I'll keep updating as I go.

Working on the lit floor area round toms station right now, what a complicated mess! wow. Getting there though. Also had to pull out all the rear wall console section as that was entirely wrong.

And now the file's corrupt and just crashes sketchup, so I've lost everything I did to that floor section. Fail.

    Thank god for a backup.

Are you following a tutorial on any of this? Or writing one? I'd love to do what you can do with this stuff, but I'm just a meat-fisted buffoon when it comes to virtual 3-D...

Now, give me some foam core, poster board, and a good set of prints and I'll bang it out in RL! Physical models is where I'm a viking! Sadly, they take up more room in my apartment that virtual stuff...:(

Honestly just download it and install it. Most 3d software is rediculously intimidating for beginners and really hard to grasp but sketchup is super easy, I may write sone brief tutorials though.

I'm just learning as I go and when I get stuck I just look it up. Things do get pretty frustrating when toy get into complex curved surfaces and the like but the software isn't really geared for that. Interior stuff like this is fine though.

This one of those parts that's been a right pain in the bum, I keep having to go back and re do stuff because I'll spot something in a another reference image that doesn't tally up or whatever, it's getting there though.

Wow... this is some absolutely beautiful work! I love what you have so far. The only thing I would like to ask/comment on, is please try to make your final renders just a wee bit more brightly lit... they're pretty dark. As I said, you're off to an excellent start!

It's probably dark because he hasn't put in the overhead lights yet.

I'm really liking what I see so far; liked your Defiant project, too!

yeah I'm only using the one light atm, mainly to keep the render time down but I'll be starting to add a few other detail lights tomorrow. Glad you like it :)

Some horribly dirty renders of where I am are so far, now that lights are going in the render time has shot through the roof so I've scaled the quality right back for the sake of these...

What are you using for rendering? I've tried it a couple of times without success. I know I'm missing something. Used a couple of the SU recommending rendering sources so far.

Anyway- nice build here. I'm digging your attention to detail!

Using V-Ray for rendering, its great once you get the hang of it. Another dirty render of today's progress:

Dirty renders? I don't see the first nude crewperson, not even a coy panty shot from a pretty yeoman!

Seriously, you've done wonders with Skecthup. I didn't think it could create such complex curves.

    Sincerely,

    Bill

^You obviously haven't seen much done with Sketchup.
