I'm actually surprised how much I liked this. I was expecting a train wreck, and to rip it to shreds. Instead, it was a fairly entertaining hour of television. It's not 100% faithful to the comics, but Green Arrow has never been a huge favorite of mine. I really only ever read him when he teams up with Hal Jordan, or the Justice League. This is one I'll keep on watching.

I really enjoyed it. I'm not sure exactly how closesly it ties into the comics origin story, but as somebody who only knows the basics of Ollie's story I thought it was good. I know enough to get a kick out of the little easter eggs, like Merlyn (I'm assuming he's going to end up the big bad at some point), Speedy (who is hooked on drugs....hmmm, I wonder if they'll do the HIV thing too), and the Deathstroke mask.
So, I'm wondering if John Barrowman's mystery role will be Deathstroke? That just seems like a pretty big thing to drop in and then not give us payoff sometime soon.
Definitely sticking with this for the foreseeable future.

An origin in the 80s says that he was drunk, fell over board, woke up on an island, six months later some hippies show up to collect those pot harvest, and he takes their boat.

    Since then things got darker.

TOTALWAR with a heroin cartel for control of the island written by Andie Diggle a couple years back... hey? Isn't the bodyguard calling himself Diggle? But that book has been rebooted at least three times since then.

Not really being a comic book geek and having not watched Smallville, I didn't go in with any preconceptions or expectations and I really enjoyed it. Finally something new to watch which isn't something's next season or a spin-off series.

Though my first contact with the character was Smallville I actually prefer this version.
Much more of the fun and craziness you'd expect from a show based on a comic.

My wife and I decided to give it a try last night not expecting much and we both really enjoyed it. It was much darker than we thought it would be but it was a refreshing change of pace from Smallville.

One thing we were wondering is if Diggle will become his "sidekick", what with the military background and all.

I think Diggle's (rhymes with wiggles haha) is more likely to be in league with the Borg Queen/Jadzia's wife and that dude from Resident Evil/AVP.

I don't know. I got the impression Diggles was just hired to do a job.

Nah, the bodyguard is going to end up being one of the good guys. You could just tell from his demeanor.

That said, I was pleasantly surprised by the show. I went in assuming it was just going to be a continuation of Smallville, which I absolutely dreaded. But being a fan of the genre, I gave it a shot anyway. Very happy it's its own thing, even if they did insist on using the same home as the Luthor mansion. It's a really nice place, don't get me wrong. I just don't want to deal with the constant reminder of that dreadful series while watching this one.

Sad part is, he probably came from a similar company that hired out all the goons Queen killed through the episode, or knew them as they were essentially in the same industry. Wouldn't it be ironic if Diggles ended up bodyguarding a baddie and Queen had to kill him, too?

I liked this opener. This Oliver Queen is badass and full of parkour-ing eye-candy for the ladies, and the story is straightforward but intriguing enough for me to come back next week at least. Also, I was in Vancouver over the summer and walked through most of the exterior scenes shot downtown - set-spotting is entertaining in its own right. :) This can easily become the Batman-lite that is suitable for television, that an audience can be found for easily enough.

It was pretty decent. I'd made no plans to watch, just happened to see it on the schedule 2 mins before it aired and decided, "Meh, why not?"

Was good. Except the recycling of Luthor Manor. lol.

That said, I think if it lasts it will only make it 2 to 4 years.

It's no Smallville. Even with all it's weaknesses, Smallville had some great dynamics with much more familiar characters played by decent actors. Arrow doesn't have those same dynamics or actors, IMHO. So while it's good... I don't see it surviving very long. It's premiere ratings where good for CW, but not great for them.

I'll keep watching, but I don't expect it to be on the air in 10 years like "Smallville" was. Not by far.

I love the irony of sexuality on tv. Women claim to need a curtain of civilization for their fantasies, when in truth it's just that it's hard for them to come by free porn safely without being seen and put on a list... Meanwhile men need exactly the same level of exploitive sexuality on TV because all the porn in the world already is not quite enough.

PS, meatcandy like Stephen Amell is %92 not for women.

    Men rule.

I really hope Merlyn (Merlin?) doesn't end up with the same enemy/friend dynamic as Luthor did with Clark in Smallville.

Wait - is the mansion interior the same as the Luthor mansion? I know the exterior is the same place in Vancouver, but I thought the interior was a set?

The cops said "please tell me you haven't dateraped anyone else tonight?"

Earlier Merlyn says "Your sister is super hot."

2 + 2 = Merlyn is going to daterape the sister.

"She was into me, she wanted it!"

"You got her so high that she didn't know what she saying or doing."

"But she didn't say "no", and that's all that matters."

It's going to be an enemy/enemy thing.

While that is a cool idea, for people who know the story it's pretty clear that if he does get a sidekick, it's going to be Thea.

And it turns out my theory about John Barrowman being Deathstroke was wrong.

In the comics Green Arrow has an enemy named Merlyn who is an archer/assassin.

^Yeah, that doesn't affect my hope.

I personally think the "Speedy" reference was a throw away bit for the comic fans. I seriously doubt she'll end up as a side kick.

Oh, I'm not saying it's definitely going to happen. It just seems to me that if they do decide to go that route, it would make sense to use something from the comics that was already set up.
