Okay, the new VektorVisual.com is online! I still haven't restored the image files but the blog is up and running so feel free to stop by and leave a comment. I should have some actual art content posted on there by later tonight or tomorrow.
Well, it was until the spammers discovered it. I've had to delete a couple thousand drug advertisements in the last two or three days. I'm starting to get some filters in place that are helping but I can already see that keeping up with that is going to be a bit of a pain.
This is an absolute pain-in-the-ass with WordPress. Once or twice I've actually moved a page from one address to another just to break whatever automated or otherwise rote process by which the spamborg were reaching the particular page. It's a Russian invasion, for real. You find a filter that really helps a lot I'd be glad for a heads-up.
I'm just using basic keyword filters at this point, which have eliminated about 95% of what I was getting, but there are some drug names like "Cialis" and "Ambien" that are contained in other more common words like "specialist" and "ambient" that are problematic. Also, the pharmaceutical industry seems to have an endless and ever-expanding variety of names for all the drugs and diet pills and other substances they put out. My filter list is over 50 names already and I see I have a whole new batch of them to add. What I'm trying to figure out right now is why most of these comments aren't being identified as spam in the first place. One of the basic settings in word press automatically flags any comment with more than one external link for admin review, but that doesn't seem to be having any effect at all; virtually all of these spam comments have at least three links and they're going straight through without any notification. If I get some time this weekend, I will be doing some further research into how to plug these kinds of holes.
Probably. I could also force people to register with the site before being allowed to post, but I really don't want to put that kind of feedback limitation on my site when it's so new and has so little legitimate comment traffic to begin with.
Hi All, This is my first post. I have not been here in quite some time. I had lost the forum link in one of my PC crashes! ( it is MAC form now on!!) I even tried to register again. I was also thinking of starting a blog of some kind, but this spammer problem has got me re-thinking this. Also, Vektor, could you please contact me. I need to get some info from you. Thanks in advance. Scott www.srsprototyping.com
Captcha no longer really slows 'em down at all. I clean dozens of new registrations out of my vBulletin site every day, most of whom seem to think that CheapLegalViagra is a nicely inconspicuous username.
Vektor - one word comes to mind....Simply Superb - OK it's 2 words but Hey, you're work deserves it and much more, my friend!
Since neither of these folks are guilty of Khan's two dimensional thinking, I'm guessing the battle would turn out to be a protracted draw.
You guys have got to stop bumping this thread. My hopes are getting dashed every time there's a new post but no new images!
I actually have some updates to show. As I've been saying for a while, I'm still not finished with this project despite all the finished-quality renderings I've been posting. There are some further modifications I want to make and quite a bit of detail I want to add. This weekend I managed to spend some time working on the primary hull, mainly modeled grid lines, refinements to the RCS thrusters and a few other things here and there. The textures have been removed for now since most of them will eventually have to be re-mapped anyway.
That's awesome, my friend, lovin' it!!! I am also as we speak porting my TOS.5 E into LightWave (from modo) and redoing all her surfacing and her bussards efx, and perhaps tweaking some odds-and-ends to the geo as well. Here's a peak at the WIP. I am still working creating a lighting rig, that will include a test for a self-lighting rig along the lines of TMP E. I so look forward to see your finished re-do, my E-buildin' brother! deg
