Something I posted on another forum.

Been a while...I found inspiration when I re-watch DS9, especially...I fall in love with the shuttle craft Chaffe. Which was very briefly showed in an episode. So I am going to do this design I made: USS Mitchell, defiant class I think. The name: I choose Mitchell because it was an actual ship and it wasn't taken by others. My first choice was Minerva and Miranda, but no luck there. This is the very beginning a 2D sketch. Still have to do the bottom part too, and I think I am gonna do the back wing all the way accross.

Update. I modified my main textures a lot to have a proper specular color on it. Worked abit more on the main hull and back shuttle bay. Made the front hatch.

Looks like a refit or decedant of the Defiant Class :)

It is a Defiant Class. I am redoing all the windows. I will also redo the top bridge again to have more nice windows.

It is always nice to see a fellow Trekship fan who is concerned about contradicting other fans.

I'm really loving the spoiler, which gives her a very sporty appearance.
It would seem you still can't quite do proper phaser strips with the rounded ends, but who am I to judge, especially as I can't even model in 3D at all? Besides, I know full well that she is in her early stages.

Interestingly enough, I looked up Mitchell in my logs, and there was a Ptolemy class vessel, the U.S.S. Mitchell, NCC-3863 (I believe this designation was invented for a Jaynz sourcebook), not that it really matters in this case, as the Ptolemy class vessel of that name would have long since been decommissioned. Just an interesting footnote.

I would suggest avoiding any lettered registries if that is what you are planning (like NCC-1495-A), so as to avoid contradicting the aforementioned Ptolemy class Mitchell, unless she is a much earlier vessel that was somehow lost, and the Ptolemy class vessel then took on the name.

If she is a Defiant class, it would be better for her to have a registry higher than 72405, and just be done with it on the safe side.

And that brings me to my final quip on the subject: she really doesn't even look like a variant of the Defiant class, any more than the Avenger, Valiant, or Vigilant classes do, which look, and in fact are, more like offshoots of the Defiant class. They use the Defiant class as a basis for their design, but were constructed from the ground up to be improvements upon the Escort Cruiser/Corvette.
Maybe it is because the model is in it's early stages, but so far, her components only look vaguely like those that are also used by a Defiant class, and the Mitchell looks unique compared to the Defiant class.

I hope you get what I'm saying without coming off too negative.

Like you said JES, I based my design, not only on the final ship but also on some previous sketches. There were many variants before the final one. I decided to refrain myself from adopting a saucer shape, but to keep: the docking nose, the engine's look, the winged top liaison bridge, the frontal energy phaser (yellow). That said I was mostly interested in the engine design and the Chaffe shuttle. It's also bigger then the defiant, kind of an evolution toward a real starship instead of a corvette.

I redid all the upper bridge, still tweaking on the central white par to do. Added some more details on the nose

It does give an impression of quite a big size. The windows pull it together, hoping for more.

Got a new keyboard so...I have redone the upper bridge part. I didn't like the previous iteration. This one has more focus and bring back the original shape too. You also miss some previous work on the back engine and the nacelle

And yes, upon the suggestion of someone here, I will redo the phaser strips to be rounders.

Redone all the phaser strips. Put glow on a couple of textures...And done the frontal yellow engine part, mostly like the Defiant (Not exactly similar). Put textures on the back wing
