Well Jeter does play in the Big Apple and you can't dispute his postseason success. Although most players don't get to reach the postseason 16 times, especially the ones pre-Wild Card.

Jeter really benefited from playing for the Yankees in the late '90s. With any other team he probably still would have turned out alright, but he was in the right place at the right time.

So if the drafts had played out differently and Jeter ended somewhere else... this could be the Nomar Garciaparra love fest right now.

At least now I have no reason to keep him on my fantasy team in the hope that his lousy season will turn around.

That's ok, doing my best to ensure you are only playing until tomorrow anyway ;)

Does seem like we always match up!

Not playing to make friends, we can be friends again tomorrow ;)

Neither the Red Sox nor the Yankees will be in the playoffs.

Some poor intern at ESPN is probably guzzling Maalox at this point.

Well, the streak finally ended at 10. A nice run though.

10 game lead with 13 to play.

    Sweet.

And I'm out in round 1. Good luck!

Now I have nothing to root for but the Twins to not lose 90 games. Considering they already have 86 losses, it's a long shot at best.

And Baltimore is three outs away from taking the AL East.

Meanwhile, Jake Arrieta has a no-hitter through 7 against Cincinnati.

Let's not forget the Angles clinched a playoff berth yesterday.

    Just saying...

Ended up with a 1 hitter, which is still impressive, plus 13 K's.

I hope we're done with that phase where every starter was getting bitchslapped. Last 2 games have been good, pitching-wise.

The Kiss Jeter's Ass tour is annoying as hell. At some point we have to draw the line with the extensive ceremonies honoring players who may be Hall of Famers but certainly aren't SuperStars™.

The A's choked again yesterday. The wheels are coming off of Kazmir, and they are making lot's of errors. I am disappointed, but perhaps they can sneak into the playoffs.

I remember watching the game in Minnesota where it was announced to the crowd that Brooks Robinson just retired in mid game. He received polite applause from the fans there. He went on the "voluntary retired list", meaning he was forced out. There were no goodbye tours then, and he wasn't even allowed to do it at a home game.

The Tigers vs A's in the ACLS?
What is happening to the A's defies prediction. They have been a completely different team since after the All-Star break.

Like I said earlier in the thread, I hate Chipper fucken' Jones for starting this whole retirement tour bullshit. With Mo Rivera, I could kind of understand it, because he was indisputably the greatest reliever of all time and he was retiring when he was still at the top of his game, but Jeter's been actively hurting his team defensively for, eh, ten years or so at the least, and his offense has been steadily declining for about five. So basically he's getting this grand farewell tour because ... because it's the Yankees' divine right or some shit, I don't know.
