Do you or anybody you know use common words as some sort of swear? For example, my dad, who does have a vocabulary of all the general swear words, will sometime say, "Well jazz!" as if it were some sort of ultimate oath.

So anyone else encounter anything like this, or is my father just a bit loony when it comes to swearing?

I use classical composers instead of swear words sometimes. I'll say "Schubert" instead of shit, for example.

I work with a Soldier who is of Chinese descent and she was teaching me cuss words in Chinese.

I was watching "Booty Call" last night starring Jamie Fox and he and another actress were cursing each other out in Chinese in a Chinese restaurant and I understood everything they were saying!

This. Also, after watching Transformers: Animated, I'm tempted to add "slag" to my vulgarity index.

A few of my friends, including one of my closest, are Chinatown Chinese. I've picked up a bit of Cantonese from them, mostly of the vulgar variety. I love the slang for masturbation, which translates literally to "beating the airplane."

Nah, not so much -- but I do have funny friends. The first thing I learned to say (and forgive the phonetic spelling) was "Gno lo ho soi," which means, "I'm drooling" (literally, "I am leaking mouth-water"). We used to work together in the ice cream shop where I was employed during college, and I was serving a particularly attractive male customer. In the background I heard one of my friends whisper to the other, "Hannah lo ho soi." After that I had to learn some Cantonese so I could gossip behind the customers' backs too!
I didn't know that one. Mandarin or Cantonese?

Truthfully, I don't swear much and when I do it's usually "balls" or one of the basics -- shit, fuck...

When the kids are around, I use variations on the usual: I say "corn-shucker" rather than "cocksucker" and "mother-father" rather than "mother-fucker".

    Joe, mother-fathering icehole

I thought that word was also made up for the show. (I distinctly remember Rimmer using it at least once.) If this is not the case, please accept my apologies.

Oddly enough, the "fake" phrase I tend to use most is "frickin...frickin frik." Which as far as I know isn't actually a real fake swear, it's just something Nathan Fillion said once on the Firefly blooper reel.

Words like jazz and Rock 'n' roll are from black dialect and refer to sex, so saying "Well, jazz!" was just a polite way of saying "Well, fuck!"

And gimp. One of the reasons I don't discuss the well known freeware image program.
