Less than a year after Revelation and Dust, DRGIII returns with a new novel titled One Constant Star. Flying under the Lost Era banner, this one focuses on the characters of John Harriman and Demora Sulu of the Enterprise B.

Really looking forward to this one. I loved Serpents Among the Ruins and I can't wait to see what DRGIII does as his first (novel length) follow up. I say first because I really hope there will be more.

While I would certainly like more novels by DRG set on the Enterprise B, I'm more hoping this opens the door to more Lost Era novels. Nothing too serious, say a novel or two a year chronicling more adventures for the Enterprise B, or even the Enterprise C. Hell, you could also throw in new stories involving the Excelsior or the Stargazer or an manner of stories involving the TOS cast in their later days or the characters from the 24th century shows in their early days. This is a period of Trek's history spanning 70 years with practically no on-screen representation, plenty of ground for novels to cover.

This might be the make or break for DRGIII stuff for me. I really, really enjoyed Serpents Among the Ruins. I thought it did a great job of burnishing Captain Harriman. But I haven't been the biggest fan of DRGIII's recent DS9 books and the deconstruction and rebuilding of Captain Sisko, so this one might be the last one for me.

Looking forward to this novel. DRG is one of my favorite Trek writers now; I really enjoyed his last three 24th century verse books, quite readable, (IMHO) yay!

I wonder if I should get this one on paper? Does it look like the other Lost Era books?? Would look nice on the shelf! Will be a good read either way, I'm sure.

I don't know if there are actually Tzenkethi characters in the novel, but they've become my favorite of all of the Typhon Pact members, so I hope they are.

Need to order this one soon, however, my usual online retailer has quite a high price right now. 12,99 euro compared to the usual 8,99 euro. I'll wait a day or two to see if they alter the price.

It uses the same front cover design as the first six TLE books, so I would assume that the spine and back cover designs will probably match too.

Given S&S can't keep the spines of Titan and Typhon Pact novels consistent, I wouldn't hold much hope for them being able to match the spine of a series that came out over ten years ago.

There are Tzenkethi characters, but this is not a Tzenkethi-heavy novel.

I liked it, but it didn't strike me as being up there with his very best work. I'm glad I bought it, and it's nice to see Demora Sulu and Harriman and the rest again, but still.

That's the great thing about the Enterprise B, there's plenty of ground to cover. While I'm sure another DRG novel would likely go forward and continue after whatever story developments are in this book, should another author want to come in and do one that took place during Harriman's command, say five years or so after the Generations sequence that can easily happen too.

Yeah, I'm going dead tree on this one for that reason. I wish The Buried Age had followed the previous designs.

The decision was made with regard to The Buried Age and Terok Nor that they would be more marketable as installments in their respective series, TNG and DS9. Most of the other TLE books aren't really identifiable with any single TV series (other than Deny Thy Father, which I think is mostly TNG-related).

Star Trek Generations's prologue was set in 2293 while the movie was released in 1995. Since almost enough real-world time has passed to get to 2319, I wonder if Jacqueline Kim could somehow be persuaded to do a photoshoot for the cover of the next Enterprise-B novel.
