I so wish I brought a brown bag lunch into work today ...

    I'm hyperventilating!

Please, please, please let the art direction be the only let-down! All of the sudden, I've gone from simply looking forward to a new, but probably disappointing Trek film to watching the seconds counter on my computer and willing them to click over faster.

Very good. There are a few moments where it looks a little CGI (mainly the warp effect), but the rest is fantastic. As much as the visuals are impressive, I was truly blown away by the sound mix. They combine very successfully to really make an incredible experience. Having seen Transformers in theatre (that was a great sound mix) I'm fairly certain this will be giving the home theatre system a great workout.

It's definitely good and Giacchino's score hits all the right beats, the melody just doesn't capture my interest as much. The action moments are spot on and the music swells in the places it needs to but the actual theme for some reason never quite seems to match the grand scale of the film itself. It's bombastic, but I think there's a theme out there somewhere the would've fit far better.

As with most things you're anticipating don't let the less positive aspects spoil it. For me the film is 99% great. The overwhelmingly positive reviews everywhere show that if longtime fans are only finding fairly minor quibbles then it's not much to get worked up about.

I am a long time lurker (started coming here around the "lets pay for Enterprise ourselves" era) and the new movie has moved me to register.

I dont know if I can avoid spoliers for a month.

The buzz is just so positive.

I am in my office right now about to have a stroke with excitement.

Star Trek being the big dick for Paramount is a good thing (or the big cock as Cogley would say it).

what if we were watching adrien brody and matt damon now? makes you wonder. i'd like to say i know they made the right decision, but that would be a little facile. regardless, the new actors do a terrific job with their roles.

I know what you mean, urbandk. I'm kind of glad, now, that we had smaller named actors who will "put out more" to make this successful. At least I think so.

The very idea of Matt Damon and Adrien Brody as Kirk & Spock doesn't thrill me at all.

Another question for the lucky few...

A lot has been said in the past about the lens flares in the film and with the few clips that have been released yesterday and today people are talking about it again.

So how is it in the movie ? Are they noticeable, annoying, add realism, you hardly pay attention to them ? What's the story ?
