I guess that is where we disagree--I think it looks rather nice myself.

 

It's... safe.

It's more or less the refit Enterprise with different warp engines. I mean, it's fine, but it's not exactly a fresh coat of paint. If you're going to change it, change it. If not, just take the original design and have it in the movie.


I honestly like some of the other Ryan Church designs for the E before it was finalized in the film. The glowing inside/transparent skin of the entire engine in some of the concept art I thought was a really cool look. His concepts seemed to be a very strange mix of retro and future stuff.

 

I cannot emphasize enough how impressed I am that they chose to keep the leading edge of the nacelle pylons straight instead of sweeping them back. I love the way they sweep backward into the shuttle bay area. Sweeping the pylons back is such a cheap way to invoke motion. The first view we got of the ship is not necessarily her best angle. I like the way the secondary hull juts forward at the bottom, to be honest. It's an exaggeration of how the original ship's neck attached but it also conveys readiness.

 

I agree. I hope this Tim Flattery guy didn't get paid a whole lot for just basically changing the engines on a ship design he didn't even come up with himself.

Unless of course he was paid to only do just that, which kinda lends credence to a suspicion I once had. One of the reasons why I hate the nuEnterprise design is that it looks more like it was designed by a committee rather than just one person (i.e. one guy designed the saucer, another guy designed the neck, another guy designed the secondary hull, another guy designed the engines, etc.), the end result being a hodgepodge of parts that don't quite go together correctly when assembled. I know Church takes credit for the finished design, but now I'm wondering if he just based his design on parts of the ship that others designed before him.

 

The first thing that came to mind when I saw it was Dennis' TMP Enterprise with TOS nacelles

 

Except the one above is nowhere near as well done as Admiral Buzzkill's.

 

Those pylons on Flattery's design look a lot like the ones on Dennis' USS Concord mesh.

Has this version of the "E" been labelling decks with Latin alphabet letters?

Possibly, but I have my doubts. The transporter room from ST XI has a compartment number(?) starting with "M"...and the Medbay compartment number with a "G"...

 

Using letters instead of numbers to identify the decks would be consistent with the first four TOS films.

 

Interesting that they have a hand-dryer right next to the turbolift doors into Medbay.

 

That's the Dyson Sonic-Scrub -- every OR has one in the 23rd century...

 

I think it looks a million times better than what we got, but given the tastes of the other creatives involved, I'm not surprised it got shitcanned. Flattery has done some good stuff on bad or unfavorably received shows, like MISSION TO MARS and SOLARIS, but this looks hot.
