Whom do you want to see in this next Star Trek TV series? My preferences would be: Taylor Swift Summer Glau Kristin Kreuk Allison Mack Charlize Theron
Taylor Swift to the best of my knowledge has no interest in a acting career, a guest spot wouldn't be out of the question though. Summer Glau would make a fine choice to play one of main characters, should be within the price range, she would bring a good number of non-trek sci-fi fans to the early episodes. Kristin Kreuk and Allison Mack ... not sure who they are. Charlize Theron would be too expensive.
She's guest-starred on CSI and done at least one romantic-comedy movie, but, yeah, she's too busy with her singing career to do more than a guest-shot.
I have little interest in who stars in it, I just want there to be a decent story. Also, because I have no idea who is "hot" right now, and the only name of those above I recognized was Charlize Theron, though I've never seen anything she's been in. I always confuse her with Cameron Diaz for some reason.
Discussions of a next Star Trek TV series belong in our "Future of Trek" forum. I'll move it over there...
Summer Glau would be amazing in Trek. I do think Dina Meyer would be a great Captain. I'd also like to see Jensen Ackles and Wentworth Miller in the main cast.
If there's a new Trek series, it'll be maybe one or two known B actors and a bunch of unknowns. Sorry guys. The franchise isn't going to get a truly famous person that wants a huge salary.
Haven't we seen Meyer in the captain's role? I wouldn't mind seeing Commander Donatra again, though. I loved Glau in The Sarah Connor Chronicles and think she'd be a great Trek character. --Sran
^Following up on my previous post, I think Carl Lumbly would make a great Trek character, maybe as Romulan. Michael Vartan is another Alias alum whom I think would be great if Will Decker's character were ever recast in a new series. --Sran
I think there's a bit of a danger bringing in well-known actors for major roles on Trek, especially well-known genre actors. You could divide your projected audience before you've filmed a single frame.
It would depend on how the actor/actress was used, IMO. Someone like Glau or Lumbly would be great as a guest star or recurring character (like Whoppi Goldberg) but not as a main character for the exact reason you mention. One of the things I like about Trek is the show's ability to elevate previously unknown actors by associating them with its brand name. I had no idea who Michael Dorn was before I saw him in TNG; now, I'd recognize him in just about anything he did. --Sran
I know Meyer was in Star Trek: Nemesis as a Romulan commander, but I don't know if she ever played a starship captain on one of the series. Sean
