There is a definite second reference to ENT in the movie. McCoy talks about a vaccination to Melvaran mud fleas, which he injects into Kirk to make him appear sick. Melvaran mud fleas were mentioned once in Star Trek...the ENT episode "Canamar" (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Melvaran_mud_flea) Coolness!
Aren't Melvaran mud fleas a reference to the Futurama episode "Where No Fan Has Gone Before" with Mellvar? If so, is that a reference recursion?
http://www.moviesonline.ca/movienews_16696.html MoviesOnline: Star Trek has this strange sort of fan base. There’s these old classic fans and there’s the Next Gen fans which are closer to our age who grew up with it in the 80s and the movie doesn’t really give any shout outs to the Next Gen fans. Is that something you guys thought about long term since those actors are still around. Bob: Well Leonard Nimoy’s plot comes off of the reunification plot that began in Next Generation. Actually the whole events of the movie are spawned very much left off from Next Generation. Alex: Admiral Archer gets referenced. Bob: That’s Enterprise. Alex: Yeah, I know. Bob: But in Next Generation.
Not exclusively ENT, but McCoy does mention "Andorian shingles". Presumably explains why Shran only got to appear once during Season 2. The Cardassian drink ordered in the bar scene is an odd one. Seems to indicate the race was known about during this alternate 23rd Century, if not the prime one too. Perhaps even another first contact situation Archer got involved in (and presumably beaten up during).
Iloja of Prim was a Cardassian poet living on Vulcan some time before 2245 (mentioned in DS9 - Destiny), so the Cardassians would be known by the time Uhura ordered the drink. The drink isn't a continuity error.
Either way...did anyone really expect the new TREK movie crew to delve THAT deeply into the more obscure franchise lore and canon?
i am not sure but it looks like one of the techs prepping a shuttle is wearing a enterprise uniform. _mud_flea[/url]
a lot of the references are from orci. he had a list of some things he wanted to include and he used like so many of us memory alpha to check things out.
