That name doesn't sound very starfleet like

Well- the design doesn't look very starfleet either, but they have licence, and it is what it is... Those pylons and nacelles certainly look like they match up the ship crashing into the harbour. Nothing spoilerish about this- the image trailer with this scene has been around forever now. All I did was draw over the main lines.

The author of that blog states that " the saucer section is very much like a merger of the Ambassador class and the Sovereign class from the prime universe."

    ?

Did the author not see that the saucer has a 'mostly empty' center?

I have mixed feelings about this design. I like the spirit of it but not the overall execution of the design. In the lower hull section it just looks too clunky.

Just in case the audience is too dumb to figure out the villains motive from his actions and dialogue alone, just write it into the name of his ship.

Kind of sounds like a name a ten year old might come up with for his fanfic.

Without knowing who's working on the film, I'm going to guess that this is an Eaves design. And since we have federation ships that look like pizza cutters and spoons and ladles, I guess a bottle opener isn't so far-fetched.

Still, it makes me wonder. USS Vengeance...what kind of vengeance is Section 31 out for?

Against the Klingons for their genocide at Phaedus?

Vengeance on the Federation Council for being a bunch of dumbasses? That makes more sense for the Prime Universe though.

Yeah, this ship really lacks any kind of subtlety. It's a Starfleet ship used by the villains, and it just so happens to be the only Starfleet ship in all Trek with a black hull as opposed to while/silver/gray that all others have had for the past 50 years almost.

^Why would they paint a ship intended to be stealthy white? It's faceted shape implies it's able to hide from sensors so doesn't it make sense to visually conceal it as well?

...Wait. You're just teasing again, right?

No, this time I actually am serious. I didn't know this ship is intended to be a stealth ship. Doesn't being twice the size of the oversized Enterprise work against that? A stealth ship should as small as possible, to better avoid detection. If Starfleet wants to use this behemoth for stealth purposes, wouldn't they just be better off trying to develop cloaking technology? They can, since the movie is set over sixty years before the Treaty of Algeron was signed.

I never saw much of a point to painting a starship black. How many times do people on a starship actually look out a window to see another ship? My guess is, not often.

It's probably more common in a timeline where the bridges of most starships have a giant windshield instead of a viewscreen.

I don't "know" that for sure either. I only sought out one spoiler after the premier (:scream:) other than that, I remain spoiler free. I was just speculating based on its similar shape to known stealth ships.

I see the point but there could also be a needed intimidation factor here. Maybe a potential enemy has a big ship so they felt the need to go bigger than they did. Again, just speculating here.

Apologies in advance if this has been discussed elsewhere but is there any info/speculation on the small, roundish ship that the crew uses on Kronos? Captain's yacht maybe? A newer shuttle? A loaner from starfleet? A klingon ship they acquired/commandeered/stole?
