I am still confused as hell as to what the hell Hal Jordan's history is...

It's not that complex. He became Parallax. He died valiantly. He became The Spectre. He's human and sane again. The end.

As it turned out, didn't Parallax basically possess him?

Aren't they re-doing his continuity though recently?

No; Johns is writing a new story about his origin, but it's the basic elements, just told in a modern style.

What? I have no idea what you're talking about. None whatsoever. Where would you ever get an idea like that? Surely, you must be pulling my leg.

Besides, everyone knows the only evil yellow monster in comics that's ever worked was the Devil Hulk. I miss that guy.

Kinda. Johns is expanding/changing some of the stuff in Moore's "Tygers" short in the 80s.

    I officially hate him now.

    Why change Alan Moore? WHY?

Because he's using the "blackest night" concept as the basis for a story; it doesn't work in its original form, so this is more a case of taking the core premise (and some of the characters) and using them. It's pretty good so far (though the origin revisit was too long, in my opinion).

But they haven't really changed the essence of it, though, have they? Abin Sur crashes and is dying, tells Ring, "Get me a guy who's honest and without fear", Ring produces Hal Jordan, etc. etc. etc. They're changing the specifics a little, but no more so than Giffen/Priest/et. al. did 20 years ago with Emerald Dawn...

Honestly, I don't mind a little reworking of the fine details as long as the broad strokes are there. Kal-El is rocketed to Earth from a doomed planet, Bruce Wayne sees his parents gunned down before his eyes, Hal Jordan gets zapped into the desert to get a magic ring from a dying space-patrolman, Barry Allen gets hit by lightning and chemicals in a police lab.... I mean, each one of those stories has been retold a dozen times with little small changes, but the Main Thing is always there. I guess that's what's important to me.

Good job the internet wasn't around when Malory or White started playing about with the Arthur legend, wha'?

God's Teeth, that heathen Mallory has seen fit to combine the Sword In The Stone with Mighty Excalibur itself! Tis not done in this way. Not ever. They be two separate weapons, that mark off parts and parcels of Arthur's growth as a liege-lord. Mallory is no more in the Book Of Life, may he burn for five days before Judgement and then ever after.

And to Burgundian Templar : No, fool, Geoffrey Of Monmouth did not do the exact same thing. I suppose such as ye would be happy with combining Excalibur with Jason's Fleece and Thor's Hammer! Some of us like the legends told as they were meant.
