I am lying in bed listening to the noises my house makes in the morning as the temperature warms up. I don't think it makes noises at night as it cools down (though I know some houses do). So does your home creak or make other noises or is it the silent type?
Our black front door pops and creaks like a giant packet of Pop Rocks, every day about 3pm when the sun hits it.
My house creaks a lot even though it's quite modern. The pipes also make random noises in the middle of the night. Not enough to wake one up, but enough to quicken one's heart.
I live in a fairly new apartment building. Occasionally the plumbing makes pulsating sounds, as if it's breathing. Of course, it's normal for older buildings to make creaking and groaning sounds, just like old cars and old people.
Oh yes, our home creaks and pops. Considering the temperatures here can very from -30C to +30C (winter/summer)we go through some pretty good expanding and contracting.
The apartment I live in creaks quite a bit in strong winds. It was very noisy when Sandy blew through.
When I lived in Brooklyn, the apartment's radiator system would randomly hiss, pop, crack and clang throughout the whole winter. Scared the piss out of the cats, too.
The possums are back and screaming, hissing, fighting and mating in my walls. De-possuming the place lasted all of 2 years.
My house is 100+ years old. I'm sure it makes noises, but most of the time I don't even notice. I do like when the wind is right and I can hear the freight trains going through at night. Used to be able to hear the bugle at the old Navy School too, but alas it is no longer there. I miss it.
The only time my house makes noise is when it rains, then the drops fall on the window outside my bedroom door VERY loudly.
