Well, I guess they had to put something out there after the DWM snafu scooped them. Edit: they've also tweeted a photo of Billie Piper: https://twitter.com/bbcdoctorwho/status/317984223736782848/. For those not reading the "One Two Eight Ten" thread, the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine has arrived early, and given away a planned announcement that Tennant and Piper will return for the 50th anniversary special, which also stars John Hurt. Other casting is still secret.

Wow, cool news! My guess is 10 and Rose will be plucked out of Season 2 (only to have their memories wiped afterwards, of course) to join 11 and Clara. Either that or we'll see some "missing adventure" they had back then that somehow ties in with something 11 and Clara are doing in the present.
^^Why would their memories need to be wiped? There's never been any indication that happens to any of the Doctors or companions in the multi-Doctor stories, except maybe the Second Doctor in The Two Doctors. In fact, it's exactly because the Fifth Doctor remembers that resolved the situation in Time Crash.
Actually I think that Ten and Rose should work really well as characters alongside with Eleven. I'm looking forward to it.
Or they are the Doctor and Rose living on Pete's world, growing older at the correct speed. Sarah Jane doesn't appear to remember the events of The Five Doctors. The 5th Doctor doesn't remember Borusa is the villain, despite knowing it since his earlier selves saved him. The speculation is that they remember when its happening again, but perhaps each occasion is different. Like the writer! That may be yet to come. One site has said there's even bigger classic news on the way, nothing to do with the anniversary story.
Just read about this on tvbythenumbers. I had a feeling Tennant would be back, but to get Piper back too is nice. Yeah I know Rose has a lot of detractors, but she was my "first" companion and it's great to see her back again for the special.
Honestly, I'm more excited by the news that John Hurt is going to be guest starring (honestly, did anyone think David Tennant wouldn't return?)! The man is an acting god and has shown up in just about everything at this point.
Great news but dare I say the least surprising? I'm kinda glad now that Captain Jack isn't coming back if Rose is in this as it would be too much 10th Doctor stuff.
Why are they shooting this in 3D? Are there that many people in the UK that have 3D televisions in their homes? Or is this going to be shown in theaters first?
The BBC bought 3D cameras and has to use them for something. No. It'll also be in theaters; I don't know about "first."
Yeah if Tennant hadn't been back that would have been shocking. I wonder if John Hurt will be playing a dragon
