    yeah I don't think 'tard' in the UK means quite the same as it does in the US . . . it's obviously a play on 'birthday card'

    but still . . . bad move :P

    Possibly. I was under the impression from discussing this with one of the (American) Mods around here that (re)tard is more of an insult here than in the States.

    I'd just chalk it up to the copy editor missing the spelling of TARDIS and yes, having a play on card and thinking it's clever.

    Given that Chard is in Deepest Darkest Cider country and it's most famous export is Blobby World, I wouldn't be too surprised if it was intended.
