Most of my criticisms with Braga and Trek had to do with his writing and story ideas, not his production talents. The with the development of Cosmos being handled by Druyan and Tyson (among others) I'm not worried about Braga.

If you haven't already, you can get your actor-hosting-science-show fix with Morgan Freeman's Through the Wormhole - which is actually a really good series. And, to me, it's exactly why Tyson is the right person for Cosmos.

Freeman often adds his own commentary into the episodes - literally injecting his voice into the narrative. It works because Freeman is curious and his ability to tie his own experiences and curiosity to the subject matter helps the series feel like it's exploring big questions.

Cosmos, though, was originally Sagan's personal journey. Quite simply, no one can replace his voice in the series because they aren't Sagan. But if you're going to replace him, you'd better do so with someone who has a similar breadth and depth of knowledge, optimism in humanity, and interest in making science exploration accessible. Tyson certainly fits that description.

Agreed. I consider him Sagan's intellectual equal. Actual scientists instead of mere figureheads. They didn't just jump into it in finding a host, but waited until Tyson was available. Sagan was considered a Science Communicator, and that's exactly what Tyson is.

I don't think anybody expects him to be Sagan.

Tyson has his own style and is a great spokesman for skepticism and the scientific community.

^ Drederick Tatum should host it instead.

I call BS ... no way FOX would pay the royalties for airing Tyson's face tattoo. ;)

How come they recast Carl Sagan as a black guy?

Cross Carl Sagan with Lando Calrissian--and you have Neil...

If FOX is smart, it will. The more ways you can get people to watch, the better. If memory serves, the show is also being aired on the National Geographic Channel.

They need to bring in more of the average TV viewer, so for season 2, the show will be hosted from a boat in a swamp, with cutaways to people discussing the physics of rebuilding old cars, and everyone will speak in a hillbilly accent while arguing about family stuff.

I think you are confusing history for NGC. NatGeo does alaska state troopers and doomsday preppers, new season starts Aug 13 with companion show Doomsday Castle.

In fact, I specified no channel, nor mentioned either of those shows, so WTF?I was riffing that ALL the so-called educational channels seem to run that crap.
