Yeah. I'm still fully convinced this movie is going to kick ass.

I love it, it all looks awesome, but (and this will sound nitpicky) the completed Washington Monument irks me. Construction stopped during the Civil War, and that's why the top half is a different color than the bottom.

Trailer sold me, especially since apparently the movie plays everything straight. No winking at the audience save for the name of the movie.

As to the Washington monument, isn't there an epilogue to the book set in the 1960s? That could explain things.

"Are you a patriot or a vampire?" :rommie: Isn't that the theme of this year's election campaign?

Trailer looks awesome. In fact, I just finished reading the book today. BTW, I totally recommed the book, it is really fucking awesome!

Indeed, and maybe it's just me, but the clip of the Washington Monument in the trailer looks like it's supposed to be modern day.

Er, modern day definately isn't accurate. Can "contemporary" be applied to fifty years ago? Ah, screw it, it doesn't look like it's from the 19th century.

The Avengers is out in late May, this film in late June, about a month later.

I was just watching the trailer in HD over on Youtube and one of the commentors mentioned something, that the film is actually similar in theme to the old Victorian "Penny Dreadful's", the 1p daily horror strips in papers.

Sort of Mr. Lincoln meets Varney the Vampire. Which makes it that little bit more awesome, retro wise.

Meh. Now William Henry Harrison has the looks of a vampire hunter. Maybe Grover Cleveland can be his sidekick, like Watson to Sherlock Holmes or Dum Dum Dugan to Nick Fury.

The bit with the Washington Monument is definitely a shot of contemporary Washington. It's looking to the west, and the Lincoln Memorial is clearly visible past the Reflecting Pool; so are modern buildings just across the Potomac. So that's probably either stock footage put in there for effect, or a scene set in the 1960s (or modern day, if they're departing from the source material).

The trailer hardly blew me away and may have turned me away some. It just looked fairly crummy and, I dunno, "typical" of the genre.

I felt that too, except since this is going to be intentionally tongue in cheek I think it has that going for it. I've never read the book though. I'm tired of all the super effects in action movies, and wish that it could be played more straight forward. It would be funnier to me if it didn't rely on "OMG what if Lincoln fought vampires with Matrix jumps!" humor.
