A crit has been offered that my designs need to be more "matched" in terms of the eras of various parts (mopvie nacelles on movie hulls, etc).

I did a quick refit of the Minuteman as a test. It looks ok this way, but I liked it with DrX's nacelles as well (made it look more like a "tween era" ship).

    What do you all think?

There's no rules saying you have to use certain era components together just as long as they don't look too far apart - you wouldn't put TOS nacelles on a TNG saucer. Generally, as long as the eras overlap or are "next to each other" in some way, you're fine. And with homemade parts that tend to borrow elements from different eras, you have even more leeway. You can always explain it away as experimental tech that got better developed later on into what we recognize.

See, Ziz, that's what I was thinking, but the critic who made the suggestion seems to be of the opinion that only certain types of nacelles belong on certain types of hulls, and not just as a matter of "period matching"...he didn't even like the ACE-based nacelle...he appears to be of the opinion that ONLY "standard" (ie, refit Connie-based) nacelles are appropriate for any ship between the 2270s and TNG era that use hulls that are from the Connie refit aesthetic.

At least that's how I'm understanding what he's saying.

    Oh well, can't please everybody...

Ok, after several back and forth exchanges with Bolian Admiral over at FRS, here's what I have

    Minuteman (2276)

    Minuteman (2294)

    Minuteman (2344)

Note that I changed more than nacelles on each iteration, reflecting systems upgrades at refit.

I think I've improved the design overall, having to consider the crits...what say you?

Love that Prometheus class. You might want to try the Swartzkofts high nacelle mount look to it, so you can keep the nacelles closer and higher in the front view...

    Might try that...here's today's:

The Barton-class missile frigate shares a number of design elements in common with the D'artagnan-class fast frigate, but is slower and less maneuverable. With the addition of a secondary hull and the associated reconfiguration of internal spaces, crews who have served on both classes have said they prefer this ship to her "cousins".

In addition to the internal layout changes, the Mk 13 "roll bar" automated torpedo pod with it's 4 FP-19 "Arrow" torpedo launchers was replaced with 8 FP-21-A "Longbow" launchers integrated into the secondary hull.

In conjunction with the newly developed FTC-91 "Hawkeye" target acquisition and tracking package, the Barton's have a devastating alpha-strike capacity at ranges up to 2.5 million kilometers. The torpedo warheads are of the new M/AMED-4 "Avenger" configuration, which features multiple reactant chambers that result in a larger, more efficient explosive release at detonation.

Just to let everyone know, I had to pull all the Minutman pics (and derived ships) to correct a credits issue. I will repost once I have fixed things.

And here they are, along with one I missed the first time around

    Ok, reposting images

Sure, if that's what's needed. I had some suggest to me privately that I might switch to thumbnails, but I can switch back. Give me a few hours to get it done. :)
