If you could own only one item of Star Trek technology, what would it be? We're not talking about patent rights, just having a single item in your possession.

Hand phaser for those pesky traffic jams?
Transporter to go anywhere you want in 15 seconds?
Replicator because you hate to cook or go shopping?
Fully armed shuttlecraft in the garage?

I'd probably go for a holodeck, since I'm on the computer all day anyway.

    Don't limit yourself to these.

I'd definitely want a holodeck. I could use it to pretend I have the other stuff!

Transporter. I'm assuming that the replicator couldn't be used to replicate anything more modern than what's available today and didn't choose the shuttle as it seemed like a bit of a cheat since it's basically an all-in-one. The ability to go anywhere in the world instantly and not have to worry about travel cost or time would be amazing.

Shuttle in the garage. Comes with all the basics(weapons, transporter, replicators) and I can be the next Henry Starling. ;)

A replicator. Because I really want to know what a raktajino tastes like.

I like cooking, but a replicator can be used for so much more than food. Definitely a replicator.

I'd like a Klingon Bird of Prey with it's functioning cloaking device. Properly modified with Starfleet command and control systems. And Federation food only in the replicators and ration packs. Also, I can drive my car up the ramp and park inside.
If that's too big then I'd like to have the android making machine from "Little Girls". And whip me up a batch of Andreas and Alices. Along with some 6s from nuBSG.

I'd also paint the bird-of-prey matte black with some effects.

A fully outfitted and equipped Runabout, that way I'd have a little bit of everything to play with, plus a small ship that could take me out into space :)

Pfft. You all can have your runabouts, and transporters, John's got Vulcan Love Slave I, II, III, and the Romulan Boudoir expansion pack.

I would not want a transporter because it might kill you and create a new replica of you every time you go someplace.

Also, if the transporter existed, it would quickly fall into the wrong hands and be used for many kinds of crimes. Burglary and kidnapping just for starters. One of the scariest uses: a bomb delivery device.

The replicator might be nice, but using it would be expensive. It would draw a lot of power, and you'd need to supply it with mass-equivalent matter to convert into whatever you are replicating.

The older I get, the more likely I'd be to choose the bag of tricks from a 24th century sickbay.

On my worst day, I'd ask for Rojan's belt-clip device that reduces people you don't like to convenient little cuboctahedrons. The trunk of my car would fill up with those things.

    A holodeck.

Would I get lessons so I could program it properly or would everyone I created look like they'd been made by a 3 year old?

One item? I'll take the Enterprise-D. That should cover just about everything else.
