that's exactly what I said in the first paragraph of my post. Here, I was going to just say the SS website agree with my dates, but then people will nitpick and say but the SS website don't. That's why I wrote these dates, and wrote the date for The Sorrows of Empire.
Christopher: I just spotted your PM in my in-box. (I admit I don't check it very often) See my comments on the paragraph in question.
^ I hope that after the book are released, somebody here remembers to ask about this mysterious exchange. I'm glad to see that while there may not be a straight through-line continuity between the four books, the authors are at least trying to keep aware of internal consistancy. I have to admit to after having an initial reluctance to this series (I'm honestly just sorta "meh" on the movie), I'm now leaning towards picking them up based largely on the conversations here at the BBS. One thing that would be cool, and I guess this is aimed toward Mr. Cox as he is writing the book with Spock-Prime, would be to have references to not only the Prime-Universe canon, but to the novel-verse continuity as well.
We're trying to keep the continuity nods to a minimum, to allow the books to stand on their own as a new subseries and to keep them accessible to new readers. So any such references would be subtle and small. At least they are in my book, and I think we're all operating under the same parameters.
^ All it would take for me to be happy is something is as simple as Spock-Prime making a throw-away reference to the Shedai or something similarly novel-based.
Decent enough covers. I always find that the catalogue pictures are pretty rough looking, so I guess we'll just have to wait a few months for clearer pics.
There's something to be said about the books improving on and correcting the sins of the boradcast/film versions. With these authors involved, I'd suggest that you won't have to be a fan of the new film to enjoy them. After all, if I'm open to reading a Voyager novel, then the possibilities are huge...
Exactly. We want these books to be accessible to people who may have only seen the new movie, so I had to keep my continuity porn tendencies in check. There's a time and a place for Gary Seven cameos, but not this book!
