    434 strike-outs over a 20 year career. Unthinkable.

    Agree.

Got to see him during his managerial career at San Diego State when they came to Hawaii to play the UH team. What a privelage it must have been to play under him as a college player. A true all-time great taken way too early.

Just saw this myself. Always enjoyed watching him play, a hit machine.

Tony Gwynn was a great player and one of the greatest hitters in baseball history, but he was an even better person. Such a shame to see him taken far too soon.

    Rest in peace, Tony.

If some back-of-the-envelope math I just did is correct, Gwynn averaged a strikeout every 23.576 plate appearances.

Mark Reynolds would have to avoid striking out in his next 27,626 plate appearances to match that.

I swear the only thing that can get the Braves back on track is playing the Nationals. That team goes completely mental whenever Atlanta comes to town. I predict the Nationals will probably win the division by 8 games and lose 15 out of 19 to the Braves season.

Reyes is hurt again and the Jays are in a tailspin.

How soon until Gibbons starts challenging his players to fights again?

I think the margin will be slimmer like <5 games either way. They'll have break that dependency on the long ball.

AA just needs to sign Shea Hillenbrand to a one-week contract.

One would think after ten years in the bigs, someone would clue him in to the fact that leading the strikeouts per season stat is not good for a hitter...So glad to be rid of his ass. Prado is twice the hitter he ever was and Goldschmidt makes Reynolds look silly.

Should do it now, losing 2 of 3 to a bad Reds team is worthy if a rumble.

That's the best game I can remember seeing Tillman pitch. I saw him pitch in the minors too. Especially in Yankee stadium. Tanaka battled strong for 7 innings and the Yankees bats were left in the clubhouse. Congrats on a good series Baltimore. It's going to be tight down the stretch.
