Cast the Characters of Trek Literature

Vaughn is pretty good for Vaughn, my only thing is the accent. Yeah, I know it's just a nitpick, but for some reason I just can't get past it.

Why? What kind of accent is Elias Vaughn supposed to have?

And I agree, Sean Connery is a perfect Vaughn. I just want to see the inevitable Celebrity Jeopardy sketch.

 

I don't know if it's ever been spelled out directly, but I've always imagined Vaughn having a little bit of a midwestern Indiana twang in his voice. Just a touch, but definitely part of the flavor. Like Hal Holbrook or maybe Sam Waterston.

Same here. In fact, I think I remember an author or editor saying that he did in fact have a midwestern accent, but I could be mistaken.

 

KRAD, David and S.D. Perry have made him so real to me that I've forgotten where I know these details from.

I gotta say, I really like the portrait of Vaughn on that Mission Gamma book. Without being a familiar actor, he almost seems very recognizable and lifelike. I almost can hear his voice and get an idea of his character, just from that portrait.

 

I just saw someone who might be able to be a good Vaughn, this is just a new idea so I'm not real attached to it if you shoot it down instantly.
But here goes: M.C. Gainley , who plays Tom/Mr. Friendly on Lost. Although, Tom is (maybe) a bad guy I feel that he does have does have the commanding pressence that would be required of Vaughn. Like I said it's just another idea, so feel free to tell me I'm an idot for even suggesting him.

 

I hadn't thought of him, but I can see that. As long as he doesn't have that bushy ZZ Top beard he wore the first few times they saw him.

And I demand that someone call him "Zeke" like Sawyer did

 

^^Isn't that guy decades too young to be Vaughn? I mean, he's 102. Even with prolonged 24th-century longevity, that would correspond to a healthy 70-something by today's standards.

 

So far, the closest I've seen to Christine Vale is Gretchen Mol, especially in The Shape of Things with Rachez Weisz

She also protrayed Bettie Page in The Notorious Bettie Page, so she looks fairly natural in each of Vale's three hair colors.

Gretchen would probably come in second behind Ms. Sackhoff for my Cmrd. Vale. She looks pretty close to how I imagined Vale, but Sackhoff is almost exactly how I imagine her.

 

What about Robert Vaughn for Elias Vaughn?

I always thought Victor Garber would make a good Vaugn and he played a spy to boot.

 

Assuming Vaughn is in good enough health, I doubt he looks anywhere even close to his true age. If people routinely live that long, probably everyone looks younger than they are. (For example, Picard is in his 70's now, but doesn't look it.)

 

Uhh, yeah, of course, which is why I said 102 would correspond to a healthy 70-something. People are suggesting actors in their 40s or 50s, which is too young even allowing for Trek's greater longevity (and I did allow for it).
