Comic book artist Kevin Maguire has drawn the Doctors in the style of Justice League #1. So, Capaldi is Guy Gardner. Tennant is Captain Whitebread. Smith is Blue Beetle. And Davison is Batman. And, there's someone lurking in the upper right hand corner. It's nicely done. I'd read the heck out of that comic book.
I don't get it? How does that relate to Justice League? Are they just arranged in the same Manner as the Justice League #1 Cover (I don't find a cover that looks like that Googling Images of "Justice League #1 Cover"? The Doctors in the drawing certainly don't look like any of the suggestions you made?
That's the positions they're in on Maguire's Justice League #1 cover. It's sort of an iconic image that Maguire's riffed on a number of times over the years. So I'm equating the Doctors to the positions they are in on his multi-Doc picture. And I wonder if Davison can "one punch" Capaldi.
It's getting to the point that all I have to do is see Kevin Maguire's name mentioned and I know it's going to involve a pastiche of that cover. I mean, it's a classic cover and all, but I have to wonder how many times he can return to that well. You'd think eventually he'd get tired of having his whole career defined by that one image.
Well, there's one bid. The website is reading my IP, and calculating what the bid is in my local currency (NZ $863.), and what shipping costs I would have to pay (NZ $43) and import charges (NZ $123) which are variable upon the final price of the art. Golly.
You may as well ask if Led Zeppelin is tired of being defined by "Stairway To Heaven". The answer is likely yes, but when someone does something great that people love that's just what happens sometimes. And I know Maguire himself has riffed on it several times over the years, but that's nothing compared to how many other artists have done their own version.
I'd say 350-400 at the most, 750 is just too high a price for a single art piece, comic related, especially in this horrible economy. Just my thoughts anyways..not saying he's not worth a good fee, but 750 is a bit much IMHO, considering it's not for charity, and how bad things are out there job wise.. unless of course you work for the government, then you are set..
Well, comics artists have a hard time making money too, considering how often their creations are treated as work-for-hire by their publishers. And $750 may not seem like too much at all for a comics-art collector who prizes ownership of an original artwork.
I know. it's tough out there.. I myself being a comic artist, and head director for Capital Comics Studios..it's rough..I guess it depends on the person, their preference and their means. I personally wouldn't pay 750...but that's just me.
Well, sure. Art collectors (and collectors of various other things) are usually people who have a lot of disposable income to throw around and a desire to engage in conspicuous consumption. And comics art is seen these days as highly collectible.
was McGuire the one who drew the original Marvel comics Doctor Who books? You know with the fourth Doctor?
