Yeah, that's what I said, you can see the hull of the ship. That's what gives the impression it is a window and not just the viewer showing space with some random read-outs on top.

Here... Let me mess with your heads, guys...

Holotank? Maybe it's a 3D hologram projector for the viewscreen.

Whatever it is, it looks fucking awesome. And Quinto is totally working the Spock look. I can't wait to hear him say, "Jim, that's highly illogical."

I AM kinda worried about his attitude toward Star Trek in general, but I'll give him a shot. Every preview review we've heard so far has been stellar.

I don't know, sounds like a reasonable concern to have when making a Trek movie. Abrams is just coming at it from the viewpoint of the general public, which unfortunately DOES see Trek as pretty silly and ridiculous.

If this movie has any chance at being a success, it's got to appeal to more than just the diehard Trek fans.

I anticipate that we'll see Kirk put on the gold uniform near the end of the movie, and it'll be a nerdgasm/OMG! moment similar to when Daniel Craig says "Bond, James Bond" at the end of Casino Royale. That's my guess.

Yup, that's what you said. Now I wonder what I was reading.

I'm thinking it might be an homage to the pilot variant of the Enterprise bridge, which seemed to have an immense rectangular light on the front of the bridge dome, almost implying that the viewscreen was always thought of as a window back then:

As I noted in my post above, I agree with this interpretation -- and canon demands it!

I understand that, I'm just worried about whether he's going to be able to treat it seriously or not. Get over his preconceptions, as it were.

I'm really glad to see these pics being released now. I think it's helpful for someone like me, who's looking forward to the movie and doesn't have a problem with a changing design ethic in principle, but will always have that momentary shock of seeing something different. I can ease into the new look of the bridge over the next few months and just focus on enjoying the movie for what it is come May.

Everything so far is still leaving me feeling optimistic about this film. Roll on the trailer!

I dunno. Either the perspective is overly exaggerated or the right side of the pic leads me to believe that this is a window on the bottom half of the saucer. The purple streaks also give me the sense that we're not facing forward.

Yes! Oh GOD YES! The new pics look awesome! :D

I'd have to disagree. I think this is exactly the kind of attitude needed to make Star Trek viable again.

How do you explain seeing the top of the saucer and the "NCC" registry? :wtf:

    I wouldn't be too worried. ;)

He clearly cares about making a good movie (and future movies), and he had 2 hardcore Star Trek fans writing this thing. He just has the ability to think clearly and progressively; and unlike others, he knows the 1960's are long gone..
