I don't know if this has been mentioned or not, but Loki's "partner" was listed in the credits as "the Other", and was played by Alexis Denisof. Not surprising, considering Whedon's penchant for using actors from his previous projects, but I thought it was kind of neat anyway.

Her action scene "It's gonna be fun" to get to the key moment of the movie where she closes the portal. She was integral at every step.

    Bring Banner
Trick the Master Trickster into showing his hand
    Get Hawkeye back under control
    Close the Portal

Black Widow was not just idle eye candy in this movie at all.

Indeed, she was used very well in this movie.

Which is why Joss Whedon rocks.

I mean, it's not like she had anything important to do in IM 2, like rebooting the VTRB or anything.

True, I've never understood the dismissive nature people assign to her in IM2 either, frankly the whole movie but her especially.

I watched IM2 again last night and thought it was just terrific. Maybe not as strong as the original but it was still a damn fun movie. Scarlett was just fine.

Not much of a fan of IM2, I always felt BW didn't belong in it. The entire film was a letdown from the first IM.

Avengers did a WAY better job with her though.

I know the Marvel heads haven't publicly mentioned a solo Black Widow film yet, that I've seen but Scarlet thinks one should be done and use Bourne as the template or style. She's had talks with Friege about it but whether that was a courtesy talk or if there is some consideration is yet to bear out.

Black Widow comes off as another character who needs someone to play off of. She doesn't strike me as big enough or interesting enough to have her own movie. They would have to give her movie something special to make it work.

Maybe if it was a buddy movie with Hawkeye?

^ I don't think a movie with the two of them would work either. Not compelling enough even as a pair.

I'm not sure we saw enough of Hawkeye to know if he was compelling or not. ;) The history between them seems pretty interesting.

^ Yeah, but with superhero movies, you need something a lot bigger than what they can offer.

True, but a BW movie is less Superman and more James Bond.

He might not have gone through any further character growth in the movie, but I wouldn't call that a "reset button" of any kind. This is still the more mature, grown up version of Thor from the end of the previous movie.

And I seriously doubt the sequel is going to pretend that he never made it back to Earth. He'll simply explain to Jane that it was an emergency situation and there wasn't time to say hi (which she should understand, if she had any access to a TV at the time).

Yes. Which would parallel the comics.

I think it could work, but it would have to be a very different kind of movie. More of a Bourne-style spy movie than a typical superhero movie.

Look what happened with Elektra. I think a Black Widow movie would do worse.

I doubt it. Elektra was a questionable spin-off of a mediocre movie done by people who just didn't get it. A Black Widow movie would not only be riding on the success of The Avengers, but would be made by people who proven that they know how to do super-hero movies right.
