New Zealand choosing new flag

I don't see what's wrong with it.

I never had ANY desire to visit NZ until 2009 and that was because my partner and I did a tour with a company called "Red Carpet Tours" which take you to many of the LOTR sites. From my exposure to the country through THAT interest, I fell in love with NZ. It REALLY IS a beautiful and amazing country and the people are warm and welcoming.


I don't see the problem, after all, people are STILL doing "Sound of Music" tours in Salzburg! Stop hating on yourselves, bro!

 

I/like #30 because it looks like New Zealand on the waters and the white is the atmosphere as seen by outer space :-)

 

I've seen those ads here in the US, as well.

New Zealand has unveiled four new flag designs chosen out of 40 contenders, one of which will be chosen to go up against the current flag in a referendum next year.


a) Black & White Fern
b) Silver Fern (red,white & blue)
c) Silver Fern (black,white & blue)
d) Koru (black)

I think it'll be 2. But that's just me.

 

I think the black corner of #4 makes more sense with the white fern, but I prefer the shade of blue used in #2. #1 looks strangely busy, and #3 just doesn't look good in black and white.

 

I like no 2 and no 4. White and black colors only designs on national flags look strange to me.

 

For some reason I hear a Muppet singing, "One of these things doesn't belong here...."

 

#2 is beautiful. But, as an American, the combination of red, white, and blue certainly reminds me of my flag.

I like #4. It has another color, black. Black's in three of those, and two are only black and white, so a lot in New Zealand must like black. I'd say #4 has a shot (of course, they all do!).

 

The British have red, white and blue as well on their flag.

The 2nd one seems to be the favorite to win. I preferred the alternate version with black rather than blue to make it a bit more distinctive, and several of the Koru designs over that one. Still, I think it is the best option of the remaining nominees. Honoring the past even as they shed it.

 

Interesting that the first one has a different aspect ratio than the other three.

 

New Zealand may have chosen a new flag design to run against the current national flag in a referendum which will be held in March 2016.
However the final results are not known as overseas and late votes are still coming in.

The winner of the flag competition so far is the Silver Fern (Black, White and Blue) design.

The second place currently goes to the Silver Fern (Red, White and Blue) design which was my favorite btw.

I heard the results were rigged to toss out the freaky-deaky looking flags.

(Google is no help.)

 

The Guardian is reporting that the results are too close to call for now. Official results will be announced on tuesday after the overseas and late votes have been counted.


Currently the Silver Fern (Black, White and Blue) design has 50.53 % of the total votes while Silver Fern (Red, White and Blue) design has 49.47 % of the votes.
