Anyone watching this tonight? I'm on nights so I will miss most of it so will catch it tomorrow. I'm hoping to see less poor Edith and more Fab Edith this series.
I just finished watching it. Great episode. I won't release any spoilers, except Edith looks pretty damn good!
Now now, those two will do splendid together in the Third Reich. This will set up the Christmas Special where Hitler visits Downton quite nicely indeed.
I don't mind that relationship. Edith is finally in a genuine relationship and she deserves that, although the fleeing to Germany part is a bit much, I admit. As usual, Maggie Smith was running on all cylinders. I died of laughter at "It's the job of grandmothers to interfere." Seriously, I could watch The Adventures of Violet, The Dowager Countess of Grantham and leave everyone else behind (even Mr. Bates and Anna).
The thing is I would not mind Edith new man except she does not seem all that in to him. When he said I loved you she did not say it back. I do wonder if Maggie sometime writes her own lines she gets all the best ones.
I suffered a sudden catastrophic 'giving a stuff' failure after ten minutes. Three series in and suddenly...nothing. I don't know whether I'll watch any more...
Yeah, I had trouble connecting to the characters and the story, too. But then we got the new lady's maid who, judging from the preview for next week, seems to have her own sinister agenda going on.
Lady Mary annoyed the crap out of me all episode but otherwise quite enjoyed it. I hope this season has the guts to follow through on some stories and drops the reset button tendencies of the previous year.
I don't think he should have replaced the cast members who had left. The show might be a bit better with a smaller cast.
I was board by tonight ep how convenient another letter from a dead person. Flobert needs to stop being a dick. Cora needs to stop believing everything the servants tell her. Rose and Edna need to go. And I think Edith caught a later train and she no longer a virgin. Just hope we don't get any more babies. Baby=death in this show.
Some really big contrivances this week. The letter was ridiculous, and the bit about Alice loving Carson and sending him a message to that end was cringeworthy. Still, there were some good bits too. I am enjoying the season more than last though so far.
Okay, you've all whetted my appetite for series 4 (not that it really needed whetting). Now I'd better stop reading until I can actually watch it.
I agree about the possibility of Edith taking another train. Robert definitely needs to back down and let the next generation run Downton. He'll just go back to his old ways and end up like Shrimpy did if he doesn't. Also, im glad we finally got to hear something about Gwen, I always liked her.
I can't believe they showed us pics of Edith meeting Virgin Wolf then cut it out of the ITV airing. I take it the scene will be put back in for PBS like they did last year with certain scenes.
I'm pretty sure that was a lie the other Charlie told Carson to make him feel better. It seems we've already found a replacement for Mrs. O'Brien and her evil ways. I wonder what Bates' response will be. Thomas should know better than to get on his bad side (again). I loved Anna's slight WTF look when Bates told her that prison was an education. It was cute seeing him so pleased with himself after forging Moseley's signature, though. I think his prison past should play more of a role on the show so I appreciated all that.
