I am looking for a science news site; I have researched a few options but I've never really read any. So I can't tell which are quality or not. I know quite a few of you on here do read science news daily or actively and I am wondering which sites you could recommend. Either on my list or your own choice. The goal of my search is getting the latest up-to-date news about discoveries and innovations in science. Here are the websites I found, are any of them good, reliable? www.news-medical.net www. nigms-nih.gov Popular Science Science Daily Live Science NPR www.sciencenews.org
Well some of the regular ne sites like www.bbc.co.uk/news have a Science and Tech section. Don't know if it what's you are after though.
Yeah I've been using BBC news U.S and Canada and it doesn't always stories that I need or they don't report findings as fast say CNN Money; which is a problem.
For astronomy and space science: Planetary.org (Planetary Society Blogs) Spaceflight Now For brief science articles on a variety of topics, with links to further topic detail, you could try: Science in a Can
I'd avoid those. Most major news sources no longer have science reporters, and have regular reporters doing the science reporting. The result is that the quality and accuracy of science reporting has drastically declined in the past few years. At least weekly I read a science story on BBC news that they got wrong. There's even a recent study in PLOS One Medicine on the subject. Of the sites you listed I'd trust Science Daily the most. I'd also suggest reading science blogs like: http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/ http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/ http://theness.com/neurologicablog/ I'd also highly recommend PLOS One itself. No pay wall!
Twitter can also be a good way for keeping up with current science news and events. Some I follow: Emily Lakdawalla (Senior Editor at Planetary Society blogs) @elakdawalla NASA Earth Observatory @NASA_EO US Geological Survey @USGS CERN @CERN Spaceflight Now @SpaceflightNow Dr. Kiki Sanford (host of "The Week in Science" podcast) @drkiki Earth Science Picture of the Day @EarthPic TEDTalks Updates @TEDTalks Universe Today @UniverseToday
I am glad you warned me about the major news sites no longer having science authors, thank you. Thanks for going above and beyond in your suggestions. I would have never thought to use twitter.
